Title:Licensed Practical Nurse – Shelter Nursing Care & Primary Care Clinic
Schedule:Full Time. 35 hours per week. Monday - Friday
Salary: $32.00 - $35.00/hr
Position Overview:
LPNs are embedded in PRI Shelters, Residences, and Primary Care Clinics/Mobile sites to provide on-site nursing services under the direction of the Deputy/ Director of Nursing Operations and Director of Nursing Operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for obtaining vital signs including pain and education screen and BMI, administering medications and treatments, and fulfilling specific orders designated by the practitioners. (Immunizations, PPD, Inhalation Treatments, etc.)
Perform procedures including, but not limited to, EKG’s, Hearing and Vision tests, Blood Glucose, etc.
Assist providers with examinations, minor surgery, etc., and participate in routine diagnostic and therapeutic testing and treatment, as per LPN license.
Perform phlebotomy procedures accurate lab specimen storage and handling
Ordering for stock medications, immunizations, and other supplies.
Maintain records of controlled substances and keep accurate accounting of same.
Process laboratory tests, referral, and x-ray requisition forms according to Project Renewal protocols and clinical guidelines.
Maintain emergency bag, oxygen tanks, and other clinical equipment per Project Renewal protocols.
Prepare and organize supplies in examination rooms. This includes preparing examination table, ensuring that supplies are maintained in an organized manner in cabinets, and ensuring that all necessary instruments and supplies are readily available for practitioner’s use.
Management of medication system for clients at the shelter, including
- Safe storage of medications
Ensuring that clients have appropriate supplies and access to medications
Monitoring client reactions for side effects and reporting to prescribing provider.
Provides nursing screening of all patients
Participates in weekly clinical meetings with medical staff and with shelter case management & administrative staff
Travel to cover locations as necessary for coverage
Other duties as assigned
Education Credentials/Requirements:
New York State licensed LPN
Experience
Working with homeless individuals preferred.
Preferred skills:
Communication: Must have excellent oral and listening skills.
Interpersonal skills: Must have the ability to interface with clients as well as all levels of staff.
Computer skills: Must have knowledge Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
