Description & Requirements
Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP, a transatlantic law firm, has an immediate opening for an experienced Legal Practice Assistant (LPA) for its New York City office. The LPA will support members of the Capital Markets and Business Litigation Practice Group.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be the front line of on-going client interactions.
  • Maintain knowledge of Firm policies, procedures, formats and specialized terminology within their industry focus.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of lawyer's area(s) of practice.
  • Research and keep apprised of requirements for different (relevant) courts and agencies.
  • Handle court filings at all levels including electronic filings and delivery of courtesy copies as appropriate.
  • Coordinate Service of Process of various pleadings or court forms.
  • Schedule outside vendor services, such as court reporters, expert witnesses, etc.
  • Assist with creating presentations and documents and proofread all work, including reading documents for content and context.
  • Coordinate the duplication of documents, books, and other papers, as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain temporary/permanent client and office files.
  • Maintain chronological files of daily correspondence for respective attorneys.
  • Maintain up-to-date, orderly file indexes for legal documents, such as pleading indexes.
  • Answer and screen routine telephone calls per the attorney's instruction. Provide backup telephone coverage.
  • Assist attorney with accurate daily entering of attorney time
  • Work with Billing Department to resolve billing problems and efficiently process final billing statements and letters.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records such as name/address list, client/matter numbers, and marketing mailings.
  • Manage attorney calendars and remind them of various meetings, appointments, court dates, etc.
  • Schedule outside vendor services, such as court reporters, expert witnesses, etc.
  • Open new clients and matters and facilitate the conflicts process for new and existing ones.
  • Oversee all expense processing.
  • Provide contact management for attorneys in Outlook and any firm-wide database.
  • Keep CLE records up to date.
  • Track and manage docketing requests.
  • Assist with billable work as deemed appropriate by the attorney.
  • Provide support for business generation efforts.
  • Support attorneys and offices in recruiting and other growth initiatives.
  • Open mail, sort, date stamp, and organize. Review email when attorney is out of the office.
  • File correspondence and legal documents according to the office filing system; coordinate with records management.
  • Perform other duties required based upon the unique practice of the attorney, such as, but not limited to, administrative work, practice development initiatives, and committee projects and responsibilities.
  • There are additional practice-specific duties for each position.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred and at least five years of related experience and/or training.
  • Litigation experience required.
  • Demonstrated writing and communication skills and documented interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to grasp new concepts quickly.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills: responsive, efficient, independent, high energy and proactive in a very fast-paced environment with deadline pressures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • Team player, able to interact effectively with all levels of the organization as well as external clients.
  • Ability to present herself or himself professionally and understand the importance of confidentiality and highly sensitive, client- and firm-related information.

COMPENSATION: $62,978-$76,456 is the estimated salary range for this role in New York, NY.
