The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the continued strength of the American Express brand through public relations, social media and content, colleague communications, Corporate Sustainability (CS), Community Impact and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives.

The Finance & Grants Coordinator will report to the Director, Foundation, Systems and Data and be a critical part of the Community Impact team. This role will support a variety of operational aspects of grant making and other philanthropic processes, including financials and budgeting, grant administration and reporting, as well as compliance and governance. The role will be expected to be a subject matter expert on the grant making process and systems, providing guidance and expertise to the broader team as well as partnering with the Director to drive process improvements and efficiencies.

The ideal candidate should be a proactive, collaborative problem solver who is analytically savvy and interested in learning systems and processes.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Own the grant and payment process for Dinners, Memberships and Administration funds and review payment activity across all corporate Philanthropy and the Foundation.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for the broader Community Impact team on the grant making process and system requirements, including supporting and testing changes to the system, and evaluating opportunities for enhancements.

  • Complete financial review packages for leadership and lead ongoing conversations for grant projections, potential risks and opportunities and budget impacts that require resolution. Support other ad hoc analytical requests and processes.

  • Update and maintain key grant reports and lead weekly conversations with team on required actions.

  • Facilitate ongoing oversight for the Operations team and support quarterly testing processes in partnerships with the Controls and Compliance team.

  • Provide administrative support for leadership team during team absences, vacations, etc. as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Financial acuity and analytical savvy – experienced in Excel and other MS products with an interest in learning other systems and tools.

  • Self-motivated, autonomous, with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Proactive problem solver with an ability to collaborate to find solutions that work for multiple stakeholders.

  • Curious about the how and the why and willing to challenge the status quo.

  • Detail oriented with a compliance mindset.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with grantmaking software and Philanthropic processes.

  • Experience as a financial or business analyst.

  • Experience in a large corporate setting.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
