GMHC Facilities Maintenance Technician in New York, New York

POSITION DESCRIPTIONThis role is responsible for maintaining the GMHC facility in excellent condition, ensuring it is clean and in always working order. Key duties include performing repairs and routine maintenance, overseeing cleaning, extermination and sanitization, taking a proactive, hands-on approach as needed. Proficiency in basic building repairs and cleaning is essential, along with entry-level PC skills. Responsibilities also include receiving and logging deliveries and managing mailroom services. The ideal candidate will be a team player with the ability to work effectively with others.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThe following duties are mandatory requirements of the job: •Facility Cleaning: Regularly clean all designated areas including offices, cubicles, work surfaces, dining rooms, kitchens, pantries, public areas, conference rooms, glass surfaces, water fountains, ceiling vents, hallways, and restrooms. This includes dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and stocking supplies.•Maintenance: Conduct daily facility walkthroughs to identify and address issues such as repairs, light plumbing, bulb changes, painting, patching, and small equipment troubleshooting. Ensure pest control and clean up any vermin.•Building Checks: Conduct early morning inspections of the building. Report issues such as temperature problems, leaks, and open windows to the supervisor immediately. Ensure all windows are closed at the end of the day, adhering to the building closing protocol.•Mailroom Duties: Sort and distribute mail and packages, scan items, and handle deliveries to post offices or drop-off locations.•Office Setup: Assist with staff moves, office setups, and physically relocating items between floors or offices.•Helpdesk Support: Monitor and address daily helpdesk emails, complete assigned tasks, and close tickets.•Emergency Response: Be available for emergencies 24/7, including weekends, and communicate critical information to the team. Adhere to safety protocols and universal precautions.•Fire Brigade and Crisis Response: Serve as a member of the fire brigade and crisis response team. Training will be provided by GMHC-authorized personnel and building staff, covering:oFire Emergency & Evacuation ProceduresoEmergency Action PlanoActive Shooter ProtocoloFire Extinguisher UseoResponse to all crises following established protocols, including intervention and de-escalation as needed.•Physical Requirements: Lift 50-60 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods. Handle deliveries and stock items as needed.•Service Calls: Place and follow up on service calls to vendors.•AIDS Walk NY: All employees are required to attend this annual event in MayOTHER RESPONSIBILITIES•Event Preparation: Clean and prepare areas before and after events, including restrooms and common areas. Respond to emergency cleanup needs.•Event Setup: Arrange rooms and setups according to event itineraries both on and offsite.•Reporting: Write incident and deposit reports, handle bank deposits, and sort and scan mail.•Nutrition Assistance: Support the Nutrition Department with food distribution, pantry maintenance, kitchen cleaning and deliveries. •Safety Practices: Handle chemicals safely, follow universal precautions, and update MSDS books quarterly.•Reception Duties: Periodically cover GMHC reception desk, manage guest check-ins, answer phones, and handle access control using the virtual doorman system.SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE•Experience: Prior experience in janitorial and facilities maintenance.•De-escalation: Address and resolve issues as they arise, ensuring a professional and respectful approach.•Technical Skills: Proficiency with two-way radios, cell phones, internet, PCs, and Microsoft Office products.•Organizational Skills: Ability to track and report on maintenance tasks and deliveries.•Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to interact courteously and respectfully with all individuals.•Driver’s License: A valid driver's license is a plus but not required for this position.EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION•Required: GED or equivalent experience in cleaning, janitorial, or facilities maintenance.•Preferred: Relevant certifications or additional training in maintenance and cleaning.

Minimum Salary: 21.97 Maximum Salary: 24.73 Salary Unit: Hourly
