POSITION DETAILS

The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. It prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism.

As the profession continues to reinvent itself for the digital age, the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the reporting, writing, interactive, technological, and entrepreneurial skills they need to find stories and tell them effectively. The school currently offers a Master of Arts in Journalism, a unique bilingual M.A. in Journalism for students fluent in English and Spanish, and the nation's first M.A. in Engagement Journalism.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance, the Campus Services and Facilities Director is responsible for the planning, management, administration and execution of campus and facilities related services and operations, participates in planning and setting priorities, and related projects to ensure their success.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees and manages the campus services/facilities budget including capital budgets for facilities related requests and projects.

  • Manages Capital Projects - facilities planning and construction.

  • Collaborates with the School's administrators to develop, implement and monitor campus services and facilities operating policies and procedures.

  • Works with the Finance Manager to administer the purchasing and processing of invoices for departments under their purview.

  • Oversees and manages the processes for shipping and receiving of mail and packages.

  • Works with Finance and related departments to manage and safeguard organization assets. This includes the tracking of all purchased equipment and property, tagging, inventory control, sponsor required reporting, reconciliation, equipment surplus, incoming and outgoing donations and internal reporting as required.

  • Oversees and manages facility and equipment maintenance and repair, coordinating the work with functional experts (e.g. IT, Public Safety, engineering) and outside contractors, maintenance, personnel, vendors, suppliers and others.

  • Oversees and manages the storage, transfer and disposal of property and e-waste in accordance with City, State, Federal and University rules and guidelines.

  • Manages and oversee the setup and breakdown of events, office moves and setups.

  • Oversees and manages space allocations and utilizations, and space rentals.

  • Works with the Assistant Dean and Finance Office to identify necessary purchases for the campus including: technology, furniture, office supplies, cleaning products, contractor and vendor services.

  • Serves as liaison with building management for the HVAC system and installation of electrical services.

  • Supervises the Audio-Visual staff, Broadcast Engineer, Custodial and other Facilities Staff.

  • Represents the School on University Committees, such as but not limited to the Environmental, Health, Safety and Risk Management Committee.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This position requires the incumbent to work in person.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in operations, business administration, public administration or a related field.

  • Experience in facilities management and space planning, preferably in a higher education or public sector setting.

  • Experience managing facilities-related capital projects and construction.

  • Knowledge of CUNY and New York State asset management, procurement and other relevant regulations and guidelines.

  • Experience with space management, room scheduling and inventory/asset management software.

  • Experience serving as liaison between building occupants and facilities professionals.

  • Exceptional customer-service orientation and demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, visitors, facilities and maintenance personnel and others.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and establish priorities, manage multiple demands and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience supervising staff; ability to motivate staff and work with diverse constituencies.

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft asset management and procurement modules a plus.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

As a senior staff member in a large academic or administrative department, division, or school, manages operations and administration, participates in planning and setting priorities, and oversees related projects to ensure their success.

  • Works with management to create short- and long-term business plans, including operational, organization, and financial aspects.

  • Works with management and others to develop and implement operating policies and procedures.

  • Manages the ongoing financial, operational, and staffing activities of the department.

  • Manages operating budget and performs analysis and reporting to support decision-making.

  • Oversees legal, safety, fiscal, and other compliance requirements.

  • Oversees facilities, technology, and materials utilized in the department, coordinating with appropriate Campus services.

  • Works with other Campus or University units to coordinate and plan fund-raising, grants, marketing, communications, and outreach activities.

  • Independently carries out a portfolio of responsibilities under the department's purview, such as managing committees, securing approvals, and providing communications.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$124,656 - $132,987.Salary commensurate with education and experience.
