The Estee Lauder Companies Director of AI Portfolio and Program Management in New York, New York
Responsibilities
Position Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and results oriented Director of AI Portfolio and Program Management to define and drive our organization’s enterprise-wide AI strategy. This role will be responsible for developing and operationalizing an AI strategy that aligns with critical business priorities and drives operational simplification and efficiencies. This role will focus on designing for enterprise adoption at scale—anchored on innovation, governance, and value creation—while embodying our commitment to “Beauty Reimagined.” The Director will partner with cross-functional leaders, including the AI Taskforce and Technology Leadership, to evaluate new AI project proposals, assess feasibility and ROI, and establish processes that sustain high performance and scalability for AI initiatives across the enterprise ensuring we are building competitive advantage at ELC with AI.
Responsibilities:
AI Strategy & Governance:
Define, maintain and improve ELC's AI strategy, roadmap, and governance framework.
Partner with technology leadership and the AI Taskforce to ensure alignment with corporate priorities and ethical considerations.
Facilitate ‘build-vs-buy’, vendor selection, and strategic partnership assessments.
Partner with legal, privacy and risk teams to develop and implement an AI governance framework that includes legal / moral/ ethical considerations, data quality standards, and compliance with industry best practices.
Stay abreast of AI advancements and industry best practices to inform strategic decision-making and drive awareness with relevant internal stakeholders & leadership
Lead efforts to ensure AI initiatives support and drive the company’s long-term vision, including enterprise-wide employee engagement, efficiency, and market disruption.
Partner with technical team to lead the evaluation of potential new AI technical partners to ensure our top priorities are addressed with the best in class solutions.
AI Portfolio Management:
Facilitate the evaluation of new AI project proposals, critically assessing feasibility, ROI, and scalability.
Prioritize and manage the portfolio of AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with the overall AI strategy.
Oversee coordination of AI projects, providing guidance and support to project teams.
AI Program Management:
Provide program management support for key AI web services and integrated tools (e.g. Enterprise ChatGPT and Copilot for Office).
Design and implement processes to track and analyze AI performance metrics, ensuring solutions are delivering value at scale.
Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, using insights to optimize AI solutions and drive continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Management:
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, technology leaders, and data scientists.
Regularly communicate AI strategy, portfolio progress, performance metrics to senior management and the AI Taskforce. Build decks for senior level management updates as needed.
Build strong relationships with AI partners, external partners and vendors to leverage cutting edge expertise, solutions, AI expertise and resources.
Influence and align senior leadership on AI strategy and priorities, ensuring that AI investments deliver competitive advantage and foster innovation.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Preferred. Knowledge of the emerging field of AI and the external AI vendor landscape, a plus.
Experience:
10+ years of experience in technical project/product management, corporate strategy with a technology focus, or AI-related consultancy.
7+ years of experience in portfolio and program management, with a focus on AI/ML/Data Science initiatives.
Proven track record of defining and implementing technology strategies at scale.
Experience managing complex technical projects and delivering measurable business outcomes.
Strong understanding of AI technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, etc.
Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and ethical considerations.
Skills:
Strong leadership capabilities with proven experience in driving strategic initiatives across cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Experience in managing and evaluating AI technical partners to ensure that they meet business goals and maintain high quality standards. Passion for driving innovation and transforming businesses through AI.
