How will you make an impact in this role?

Corporate Development executes strategically relevant and financially sound transactions for American Express, which enhance profitability, supplement business growth, and optimize the Company’s use of capital. The Corporate Development team is composed of American Express Ventures, the group that sources and executes strategic investments, the M&A team which is responsible for strategy development, negotiations and execution for inorganic transactions (acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures), and the Integration team responsible for integrating acquired assets and separating assets as part of strategic acquisitions and divestures.

The Director Assistant will support the overall management of the M&A team and will work closely with and report to the SVP, Head of M&A. The Director Assistant will also work alongside other members of the broader M&A team to manage strategic priorities and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Pipeline & Deal Tracker Management

  • Coordinate and consolidate pertinent information from deal team members for regular pipeline updates internally within Corporate Development and with the relevant BU/Functional Leaders or with Senior management to be used for periodic discussions.

  • Develop any supplemental content as required

Inbounds

  • Ensure inbounds received by Head of M&A from investment banks have been directed to appropriate VP & Director for socialization, review and resolution with BU and functional teams

  • Update pipeline for status of the inbound

  • Ensure follow up with investment banks on inbound opportunities (whether passed or pursued)

All-Hands M&A Team Meeting Agenda

  • Coordinate all aspects of M&A all-hands team meeting

  • Connect with VPs and Directors to develop pipeline of guest speakers, interim deal takeaways, pipeline updates for regularly scheduled M&A team meeting

  • Review pipeline with B50s for alignment

CorpDev Team Week Prep

  • Support B45 Training Pillar Lead on developing agenda, speakers, materials and venue(s)

Conferences

  • Identify and aggregate relevant conferences for the team and coordinate attendees from the team for each

Budget

  • Work with LFO to track monthly M&A spend

  • Support B50 on budget updates and management

Standardized & Institutionalizing Processes

  • On an ad-hoc basis, developing required processes and templates for typical M&A activities (e.g., engagement letter fees, non-solicit trackers, etc.)

Confluence / Reference Materials

  • Coordinate updates to reference document for the team (e.g., M&A org chart, AEMP 40, M&A playbooks)

  • Ensure reference documents as well as precedents are saved in a logical way, and shared drive is continually updated / supplements with new precedents / examples

PRSA

  • Coordinate with Corporate Development Executive Office to ensure M&A controls in Corp Dev PRSA are being distributed to relevant M&A colleagues for testing and validation

  • Liaise with Enterprise Risk team to ensure all deadlines and tasks are adhered to

Senior Management Meeting Support

  • Attend selected senior business partner meetings

  • Ensure all meeting follow-ups are completed by deliverable due date

Admins Support for SVP

  • Help maintain smooth operations of groups (e.g., PMP completion)

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Strategic, independent thinker with a high degree of analytical capabilities and strong financial acumen

  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to juggle multiple tasks, with excellent organization skills and careful attention to detail with the ability to work autonomously

  • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • Proven ability to build relationships, manage stakeholders, influence decisions and drive results through internal partnership to effectively drive processes

  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information and is required to maintain absolute discretion

  • Strong work ethic and a results-oriented attitude

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and be flexible when faced with changing priorities

  • Finance, Ventures, or Banking experience a plus

  • NY-based position, and willing to spend up to 10% of the time traveling

Qualifications

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
