Job Description

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Deputy Director in the Bureau of General Administrative Services. Reporting directly to the Director of Support Services, the successful candidate will: ensure the efficient and effective management of the building maintenance and operations of 9 Metrotech Center and 1 Pierrepont Plaza. The selected candidate’s responsibilities will be but not limited to:

  • Oversee building maintenance activities, including coordination with the building owner for necessary repairs and ensuring timely completion by vendors and contractors.

  • Maintain compliance with building management's policies and procedures for maintenance, including adherence to regulations regarding build outs, shipment receiving, shutdown requests,

    and general housekeeping.

  • Gather financial information, consolidate data, and develop and manage budgets to ensure financial goals are met.

  • Collaborate with various FDNY Bureaus within 9 Metrotech Center and Pierrepont Plaza to optimize space utilization.

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the customer service unit of the General Administrative Service Bureau, as well as laborer teams at both locations.

Qualifications

  1. Eight years of full-time experience in construction, repair, alteration and/or rehabilitation of multiple dwellings, commercial, industrial or public buildings in the capacity of general contractor, superintendent of construction, procurement specialist, evaluator responsible for cost estimation, or as a field supervisor or as an inspector, at least 18 months of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity involving responsibility for a large number of buildings; or

  2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Education in an accredited college leading toward a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, engineering technology or a closely related field will be accepted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years. However, all candidates must possess at least 18 months of the specialized supervisory or administrative experience described in "1" above.
