Summary:
Nurse assistants (or nurse aides) are unlicensed New York State-certified individuals who play an integral role on the healthcare team in long-term care or skilled nursing facilities (nursing homes). They provide non-medical services and support for residents who need help with activities of daily living. They assist in the safe and effective care of residents under the direct supervision of licensed professional nurses. Care is provided to individuals residing in long-term care facilities and in need of physical-psychosocial care or rehabilitation.

The duties of a nurse aide vary dependent upon resident needs and individualized nursing plans of care. Nursing Assistants perform tasks requiring skills that aid/promote the health and well-being of patients. Examples of these tasks preformed under appropriate supervision include but are not limited to:

  • This request is for five Nursing Aides/Sitters to escort patients within the facility to/from inpatient clinic appointments such as: { (Dental, Podiatry, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Radiology (X-Ray), Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) }.
  • Knows and make sure of proper hand washing and isolation techniques.
  • Observes and reports signs and symptoms of illness or change in status of patients.
  • Gives enemas, douches and irrigations as directed.
  • Applies hot water bottles, ice bags and coolers and hot/cold compresses as directed.
  • Requests patients to provide and assists patients in collecting urine and stool specimens.
  • Observes and records patient's quantitative intake of food and outputs of wastes.
  • Takes temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure and respiration rate.
  • Gives therapeutic baths such as sitz baths and fever sponge baths.
  • Receives patient's valuables and other belongings and conveys them to safe storage keeping appropriate records.
  • Escorts patients to and from areas where special treatment is administered.
  • Feeds patients requiring assistance to assure that such patients receive appropriate nourishment.
  • Bathes patients, while using varied equipment and techniques (e.g. bed bath, shower tables, whirlpool tub, hubbard tub).
  • Makes patients bed and assists patients with ADL's (e.g. personal hygiene, dressing, ambulation, ROM).
  • Working knowledge of emergency first aid and CPR techniques to alert and assist professional staff as needed.
  • As directed by professional staff moves, positions, lifts, and transports patients more comfortably, to prepare patients for treatments and to deliver them to appropriate treatment areas.
  • Always uses proper and safe body mechanics to avoid injury to patient and self.
  • Brings bed pans and urinals to disabled patients.
  • Attends to incontinent patients.
  • Talks to patients, listens, and responds by encouraging them to cooperate and participate in treatment activities.
In addition, for Nursing Assistant needs the:
  • Ability to understand oral and written unit reports.
  • Ability to accurately organize and convey a unit report orally and in writing.

Requirements:
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience working in a hospital, skilled/long-term nursing facility.

Shift: Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7am to 5pm.
Contract Length: Up to 2 years.
