Job Description

We seek a talented and motivated Associate Researcher I to assist in conducting a new NIH-funded multidisciplinary study at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the areas of women’s mental health and psychoneuroendocrinology.

The Associate Researcher is an entry or mid-level researcher, responsible for conducting and assisting in human subjects research studies under the supervision of Dr. Ki Goosens and her collaborators. The individual will focus on wet lab work, but will assist with the collection of blood samples from human participants as needed. Primary responsibilities will include processing human blood samples and running ELISAs and other assays to measure specific biomarkers. The individual will also organize and analyze data, help prepare research articles for publication, order reagents, perform tasks to maintain lab safety, and arrange data to meet archiving requirements. The individual will also present data in lab meetings, department retreats, and, potentially, at scientific conferences.

Experience with running ELISAs and qPCR is preferred. Candidates with phlebotomy training are preferred, but training in phlebotomy can be offered. Candidates should also be comfortable interacting with people, work well in a team, and have an interest in women’s health, endocrinology, or mood disorders. Candidates should also be organized, able to troubleshoot or problem-solve, and capable of meeting deadlines.

The majority of the individual’s time and effort will be allocated to conducting the funded study as described above, but the individual also will assist with other ongoing lab projects as needed. The position provides an excellent opportunity for training and can serve as a stepping stone to graduate school or medical school, but it could also provide a long-term opportunity to work as a laboratory scientist. Candidates who can make at least two full years of commitment to this project are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in biology, neuroscience or a related STEM field required.

• 1 - 2 years of research experience including lab work, previous phlebotomy experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Conducts human subjects research including, but not limited to: collecting blood samples from participants on a limited basis, assisting with the collection of other data from participants as needed, processing blood samples

• Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation.

• Maintains source documents, samples, and subject files in accordance with Mount Sinai policies and procedures. Ensures accurate, confidential and complete compilation of data.

• May secure and ship clinical specimens if required by the protocol.

• Performs other related duties including supporting effortas in grant preparation and journal article publication

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $74610.87 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
