Mott MacDonald is seeking professionals to join our ever-expanding tunnel team. We are currently looking for versatile civil, geotechnical or structural engineers in NY/NJ to serve as an Assistant Resident Engineer and Project Engineer in our tunnels resource group with a focus on underground design and construction projects. This role involves a field assignment and we are seeking a candidate that is comfortable with active construction. Experience in the transportation and water/wastewater sectors would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities include:

  • On-site supervisory and management role assisting a Construction Management team to lead a staff of field inspectors and field engineers on an active underground construction project.
  • Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting and addressing field issues, review and coordination of technical submittals, and tracking of progress of multiple concurrent construction operations.
  • Additional responsibilities include daily coordination with the construction contractor and acting as a liaison to the Engineer of Record to relay field issues.
  • Determine impacts from field operations which may result in commercial issues and assist the Construction Manager in the change order process.
  • Review of field instrumentation programs and evaluation of collected data;
  • Writing reports for submission to clients, including design-related technical memoranda and Reports;
  • Direct client engagement working with guidance from senior management; including liaising with clients, responding to queries, and attending design and progress meetings.
  • Managing and mentoring junior/graduate engineers and supporting their development;

We're looking for a Project Engineer to join our team to continue this and invite applications from candidates with:

  • Bachelors in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering is required and a Masters in a related field is preferred.
  • Professional engineer (PE) license in New York or ability to obtain a license within 12 months;
  • 8-10 years of experience in engineering consultancy (not including education), or an equivalent timeframe and experience in on-site heavy civil construction or construction management would be considered. An interest in working on-site is required. Experience in New York is preferred;
  • Demonstratable record in design with experience in geotechnical engineering , ground characterization for soil and rock and a working knowledge of concrete, steel and foundation design. A thorough understanding of support of excavation construction methods including slurry walls, soldier piles walls, sheet pile walls, and structural bracing is preferred. Experience with pile installation programs is also a preference.
  • Proficient in the use of geotechnical software, this may include Plaxis, GeoStudio packages/Slide, Rocscience packages, geotechnical data management (GINT/Holebase). A working knowledge of BIM tools (Bentley/Autodesk) would also be advantageous.
  • A working knowledge of structural software including STRAND7, SAP, STAAD or equivalent would also be advantageous.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is preferred.
  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour Construction Safety and Health training is preferred.
  • Strong references from past managers or clients;
  • Interest in underground design and construction for the transport, water or waste water Sectors and multidisciplinary working experience would also be advantageous.

Salary Range:$110,000 - $132,000
