The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Assistant Director works as part of a team to achieve targeted enrollment goals for Columbia Business School's MBA, Executive MBA, Specialized Masters, PhD, Deferred Enrollment programs, and other future degree programs of the School. This role primarily supports the three specialized Master of Science (MS) programs and the PhD programs. The incumbent will assist in coordinating the admissions process to enroll a high-quality, diverse student body, thereby enhancing the community and reputation of Columbia Business School.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and recommend applicants: Read and evaluate applications, conduct interviews, and serve as a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Communicate with applicants: Maintain ongoing communication throughout the admissions process regarding missing and/or updates to application materials, and other application-related topics.
  • Promote and market the School's degree programs: Coordinate and deliver on- and off-campus presentations, host receptions, and participate in other recruitment activities as determined by supervisor.
  • Refine application communications: Assist to ensure that applicants have the necessary information to complete their application and enroll in their program of choice.
  • Coordinate applicant interviews and manage application reviews: Schedule interviews, verify credentials of all admitted candidates, respond to inquiries, and assign and manage application reviews. In partnership with the Admissions leadership team, assist with scheduling the full-time Admissions Officers for interviews.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships: Work with faculty, administrators, current students, alumni and solicit their participation in Admissions recruiting-related and yield-related events. Assist with event planning for select populations (Hermes Society, alumni interviewers, etc.)
  • Coordinate communication with Business School departments: Work with Marketing and Communications, Public Relations, and Computing and Information Services on activities related to advertising, publications, website, content management, PowerPoint presentation, etc.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 2-4 years of related professional experience required.
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to customer service and the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to balance independent delivery of work with collaborative orientation.
  • Candidate must possess strong skills in communication (verbal and written), diplomacy, tact, and discretion and outstanding interpersonal/relationship management.
  • Knowledge of, and experience using, technology and tools, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Slate; familiarity with CRM tools a plus.
  • Basic data analytics capability.
  • Must live within commuting distance to New York City and have ability to work in person in hybrid work environment.
  • Ability to travel (domestic and international) and work evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience living outside the US and working with non-native English speakers is highly desirable.
  • Prior direct professional experience in a highly analytical and/or quantitative role in financial services or marketing a major asset.
