POSITION DETAILS

The Academic Advising Coordinator will report to the Assistant Director of Advising. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Advising Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:

• Supports advising and student affairs programming for the Student Center, including some nights and weekends, assists with space and event requests.

• Assists with answering general advising questions at front desk locations, coordinates front desk part time staff schedule, and assists with in -take especially during high traffic times and event check-ins.

• Administers updates for advisor assignments and other administrative processes.

• Organizes and compiles schedules, supply lists, budgets, etc.

• Updates advisement communication materials and participates in media design and communication working group.

• Works with students to resolve academic issues by providing policy information and/or referrals for new students, peer advisors, faculty and academic unit advisors, and professional academic advisors.

• Provides academic advising for undergraduate students.

• Uses multiple technologies to advise and communicate with student caseload including CUNYFirst, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate, Zoom, project management software, etc.

• Advises students regarding academic requirements, campus resources, academic planning, and co- curricular opportunities.

• Assists in developing and conducting advising program assessment and compiling and analyzing data.

• Actively promotes accessibility and visibility of advising through public programs and online presence. Coordinator is expected to have staff photo and biography on website, and engage in virtual advising, chat rooms, social media, videos, and online tutorials.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Position may occasionally require evening and/or weekend work.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of higher education administration, advising or related experience preferred.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides basic administrative support for the academic counseling program.

  • Coordinates group student academic counseling and advisement workshops; schedules on-going advisement sessions

  • Works with students to resolve academic issues by providing policy information and/or referrals

  • Assists with training students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies

  • Conducts workshops for new faculty

  • Updates advisement communication materials

  • May conduct surveys of student services to evaluate program effectiveness; compiles data to prepare activity reports as needed

  • May occasionally offer general academic advisement to students in degree and certificate programs.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with education and experience $44,411-$51,781.
