The Data Manager for Knowledge and Information is a critical role in ensuring the overall data lifecycle management, from creation and storage to retrieval and deletion, ensuring that data serves as a valuable asset for Mott MacDonald (MM). This position plays a pivotal role in making data accessible, trusted, and secure, which is essential for informed decision-making and operational efficiency and driving innovation using AI to create business value in MM. The role will report to the Regional Knowledge and Information Manager. A strong candidate will be experienced in data governance, data architecture, and delivering AI solutions along with excellent communication abilities to effectively articulate findings and influence decision-making processes within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
Data Architecture and Strategy:

  • Designing and overseeing the organization's data architecture, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.
  • Aligning data architecture with business goals and technical requirements.
  • Defining data modeling standards and ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Leading data governance initiatives to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.

Data Governance Enforcement:

  • Establishing and enforcing data governance policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring compliance with data standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

AI Solutions Delivery:

  • Overseeing AI projects from conception to deployment.
  • Translating business needs into AI requirements and selecting appropriate AI algorithms and tools.


Team Leadership:

  • Managing a team of data professionals, providing mentorship and career development.
  • Collaborating with IT teams, data scientists, and business leaders.


Stakeholder Communication:

  • Communicating the value of data governance and architecture to stakeholders.
  • Working closely with business leaders to understand their data needs.


Data Quality Management:

  • Implementing/upgrading and managing systems to monitor and improve data quality.
  • Resolving data issues to ensure accurate reporting and analytics.


Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Keeping abreast of emerging technologies and trends in data management and AI.
  • Recommending and implementing improvements to data systems and processes.


Risk Management:

  • Identifying and mitigating risks associated with data management.
  • Developing disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical data assets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) and training in DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model): Validates expertise in data management, including data governance, data architecture, and data modeling is preferred.
  • Other industry-specific certifications related to data management and AI is preferred.
  • 6 to 10 years of proven experience in data management, data governance, data architecture and delivering AI solutions.
  • Data Architecture: Proficiency in designing and maintaining data architectures, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes. Understanding of modern data architecture principles and best practices.
  • Data Governance: Knowledge of data governance frameworks, policies, and practices. Ability to enforce data quality, security, and compliance. Proven experience ensuring responsible, ethical, and legal data management thus maintaining trust and integrity in data operations
  • Data Governance Platform/Tools: Proven experience in evaluating data governance tools and implementation in a global organization.
  • Analytics and AI Solutions: Experience in delivering AI projects, including selecting appropriate algorithms, implementing machine learning models, and deploying AI solutions. Proficiency in exploring data, identifying patterns and using business intelligence tools.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of business processes, objectives, and industry-specific challenges. Ability to align data initiatives with MM goals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Awareness of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and their impact on data management and AI solutions.
  • Team Management: Ability to lead and mentor data professionals, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and manage project timelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Effective communication with business leaders, data scientists, and technical teams. Ability to advocate for data-driven decisions.
  • Data Quality Management: Knowledge of data profiling, cleansing, and validation techniques.
  • Data Modelling: Understanding of data modeling techniques (e.g., ER diagrams, dimensional modeling).
  • Data Lineage: Familiarity with tracking data lineage to ensure data traceability and transparency
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and tools in data management and AI.
  • Adapt to evolving data landscapes and changing business needs.
