Summary

A Maintenance Electrician at GAF will be responsible for a wide range of tasks and must be proficient in both mechanical, electrical and facility maintenance in a highly automated manufacturing setting. The Maintenance Electrician sets up, repairs, constructs, modifies, installs and services all types of electronic and electrical equipment, as well as, mechanical repair, installation, carpentry, and pipefitting needed throughout the plant.

Maintenance Electricians support the production of high quality commercial roofing products at the New Columbia Plant, with a customer service orientation. The ideal candidate thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure both preventative and reactive repairs and maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner to ensure continuous operation of all production lines

  • Enter and update maintenance records in MAXIMO to accurately record hours worked, job completed and maintain correct spare part inventory

  • Communicate with other production operators and leaders in a positive manner

  • Assure all activities are performed safely

  • Complete and follow all required permits for the type of work being performed

  • Must be willing to continue training and stay current on GAF’s HMI, PLC and troubleshooting requirements

Maintenance Electrician Job Responsibilities

Maintains RCN, PCN, daily calendar and email by using Microsoft Outlook. Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by wearing PPE such as steel toed boots, hearing protections, Kevlar gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, etc. in required areas. Acts as a mentor to new hires by training and offering assistance as necessary. Prepares for shift start up by reviewing shift notes, outgoing employee observations, e-mails, log books and other department data. Troubleshoots work-related problems by KT (Kepner-Tregoe) analysis and PPA (Potential Problem Analysis). Works safely to prevent on the job injuries by keeping the work area clean and free of debris. Enhances job knowledge by reading information regarding new technology, industry news, JSAs, operating procedures, test methods, as well as employee handbooks, team minutes, bulletin postings, e-mails, etc. Participates in local operational procedures, JSAs and test method changes by submitting via PCN system and approving. Troubleshoots equipment as needed while coordinating with the management team; process may include mechanically inspecting, referencing manuals, etc. Works in teams by attending and participating in meetings, such as staff meetings, safety meetings, process improvement, management, etc. Suggests improvements in work methods and procedures by using RCN (Request Change Notice) and PCN (Plant Change Notice) methods, as directed by managers. Additional projects and tasks may be assigned as business needs require.

  • Ability to perform detailed testing processes in various process conditions

  • Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of manufacturing equipment and machinery

  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

Under This Roof, We Require

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience programming / troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs, working with HMI’s, high-voltage equipment and troubleshooting electrical circuits in an industrial/manufacturing environment is preferred

  • Electrical licensure is not a requirement for this role.
