FARM LABORER
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, NYDTRP Equine Facility and Animals DEPARTMENT: NY Drug Testing and Research Program
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly | GRADE: 209 | SALARY: $20.00/HR. | SUPERVISES: NA Students
JOB SUMMARY
The Farm Laborer will provide care and feeding for NYDTRP horses; provide maintenance of facility and grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Follow established Standard Operation Procedures designed to provide optimum animal care according to Federal and State regulations and guidelines
Responsible for basic quality animal care according to their particular requirements. (Feed, watering, and cleaning)
Keep animal's environment clean and sanitized on a regular basis
Perform farm chores to include, but not limited to, weed eating, mowing, fence repair and others as assigned
Clean stalls and equipment
Assist in keeping detailed records of individual animals and operational functions
Assist veterinarians and other professional staff with treatments, vaccinations, and maintenance of animals
Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent; experience in horse care and farm operations
QUALITIES
Ability to effectively communicate with vendors and faculty
Strong attention to detail
Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Work independently and as part of a team
Take initiative, anticipate, prioritize, and follow tasks through to completion
Successfully operate within deadlines, use creative problem-solving skills, and evaluate and adjust when necessary
Adhere to Company, Department and State guidelines as directed
Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Predictable and reliable attendance
Strong customer service skills are a must
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND DEMANDS
- Exposure to slippery surfaces, cleaning solutions and chemicals, and low/high temperatures; barn conditions and strong comfort level working with and around horses; prolonged standing, walking, bending and reaching; moderate to heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs.
