New York State Job Bank Automotive Mechanic in Monticello, New York

Overview: The Sullivan County Department of Public Works is seeking a Full-Time Automotive Mechanic in Monticello, NY.

This position involves responsibility for efficient and skillful performance of a variety of automotive, truck, construction and maintenance equipment repair or maintenance tasks; general instructions are received regarding work assignments, with leeway permitted for completing work; and does related work as required. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position, although assistance and/or instructions may be provided to Mechanic's Helper. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associates Degree in automotive or diesel repair technology; or (B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in performing automotive maintenance and repair duties; or (C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above. NOTE: Candidates must provide adequate information about their experience to demonstrate that they have become knowledgeable and are able to perform standard automotive maintenance and repair tasks. NOTE: Education as detailed below may be substituted: (A) Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as a B.O.C.E.S., in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience. (B) Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience. Special Requirements for Appointment: Possession of a valid CDL-B New York State Motor Vehicle drivers license with air brake endorsement, within six (6) months of appointment. Possession of a Motor Vehicle Inspector's Certificate, Class 1 and 2, issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles within six (6) months of appointment. NOTE: Your degree or credits must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree or credits were awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
