CiTi BOCES School Counselor - CTE in Mexico, New York

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) School Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services to high school students enrolled in CTE programs. This role involves academic advising, career guidance, and personal/social support to help students achieve their educational and career goals. The counselor will collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and community partners to develop and implement programs that support student success and promote awareness of career and technical education opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Advising:

  • Assist students in developing academic plans that align with their career interests and educational goals.

  • Monitor student progress and provide interventions as needed to ensure academic success.

  • Coordinate with CTE instructors to ensure students are meeting program requirements.

  • Career Guidance:

  • Provide career counseling to help students explore career options and make informed decisions about their futures.

  • Administer and interpret career assessments to help students identify their strengths, interests, and potential career paths.

  • Facilitate workshops and activities on job search skills, resume writing, and interview techniques.

  • Personal/Social Support:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to address personal and social issues that may impact students' academic and career success.

  • Develop and implement programs to promote positive mental health and well-being.

  • Assist students in developing skills such as time management, study habits, and stress management.

  • Program Development and Implementation:

  • Collaborate with school staff and community partners to develop and implement programs that support CTE students.

  • Participate in weekly MTSS

  • Collaborative planning of career fairs, college visits, and other events to expose students to post-secondary opportunities.

  • Data Management and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress in student LMS.

  • Student transcript review w/ District Data Coordinator and home-district personnel.

  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and services.

  • Prepare reports for school administration and other stakeholders as needed.

  • Professional Development :

  • Stay current with trends and best practices in school counseling and career and technical education.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in school-wide initiatives and committees.

Job Qualifications

Certification: Valid New York State certification as a School Counselor.

Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.

Experience: Prior experience in a school counseling setting preferred. Experience with career and technical education programs is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of counseling theories and practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and community partners.

  • Strong organizational and data management skills.

  • Competence in using educational technology and digital resources.

    Physical Demands:

  • Ability to travel between school sites & promotional events if necessary.

  • Capability to lift and move materials for events and programs as needed.

    Work Environment:

  • Combination of office, classroom, and community settings.

  • Occasional travel for professional development, community engagement, and student events.
