Massapequa Public Schools Special Education Supervisor in Massapequa, New York

REPORTS TO:

  • Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services

PRIMARY PURPOSES:

  • Supervision and support of all special education and related services staff

  • Chairing committee on special education meetings

SPECIFIC SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of modern theories, principles, and practices in general and special education

  • Personnel administration at the department level

  • Ability to acquire familiarity with the laws, policies, practices, and functions of the building and district ingenuity and resourcefulness in addressing problems

  • Knowledge of CSE process and procedure

  • Develop and monitor the implementation of all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others; work in a collaborative, collegial manner; tact; courtesy; good judgment; ability to present written and oral reports and recommendations clearly and concisely

  • Ability to gain rapport and confidence of all segments of the school community

  • Assist in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of instructional staff

  • Provide training on all aspects of special education services to general and special education teachers.

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents and community members

  • Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services.

Job Qualifications

  • NYS Certification in Special Education and District-level Administration (SDA/SDL)

  • Minimum of 5 Years Successful Teaching Experience in a Special Education Setting

  • Experience chairing CSE meetings preferred

  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge and experience with autism and ABA methodologies preferred

  • Demonstrated record of working collaboratively with administrators, staff, parents and community
