Position Purpose

The CNC Mill Machinist II is responsible for machining parts utilizing milling equipment while relying on limited support from others in the machine shop department. Level II machinists will keep parts running and, within specifications, with some consultation from others. They will be moderately self-sufficient in performing duties including, but not limited to, machine tool setup, process prove out, first article inspection, and operations that are required until the job is complete. They will also provide guidance to lower-level machinists. This position relies heavily on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish daily goals. A medium degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and job kits, with some assistance.

  • Identify, locate, and build all required tooling for production.

  • Program various CNC milling machines utilizing CAM software, with limited support.

  • Send CNC code/program to self and others.

  • Set up majority of products on a variety of milling machine tools within the department.

  • Evaluate the quality of materials, parts, and equipment before the manufacturing process is started. Report any concerns to management before continuing with project.

  • Operate a variety of milling machine tools within department, as assigned.

  • Determine changes needed in programs as required during prove-out phase. Edit existing programs independently, with limited support by others.

  • Load and unload milling machine tools once setup have been proven out.

  • Operate multiple machine tools when and where applicable.

  • Create and edit CNC offsets for both fixtures and tooling.

  • Perform multi-fixturing, with limited support.

  • Perform tool offsets.

  • Perform post processing work during CNC cycle time.

  • Optimize work/process to meet/beat projection goals.

  • Utilize ERP for tracking purposes.

  • Conduct quality check at assignment completion. Report any concerns to management.

  • Delivered finished parts to designated areas.

  • Monitor tools for breakage and tool wear symptoms.

  • Perform advanced tool maintenance.

  • Assist with training/coaching of level I machinists, as well as interns.

  • Take ownership for decisions, actions, performance, and behavior.

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required. Engage in training/development programs to enhance skills.

  • Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED, or trade school graduate

  • 3-5 years of progressive milling experience or equivalent combination or education and experience

  • Ability to read G-code and M-code

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams

  • Knowledge and experience using precision measuring instruments

  • Proficient with manual milling tools

  • Experience using CAM software, plus

  • Experience using AutoCAD software, a plus

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Perform work with limited supervision required

  • Experience using MS Office, a plus

  • Knowledge of Epicor, slack, and/or Box, a plus

  • Flexibility with work schedule, including some holding and alternate shifts as required; ability to work OT (more than 40 hours) in any given week as needed.
