New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Field Supervisor for Meter Reading. This role will direct and coordinate a unit of field personnel to assure the timely and accurate reading of all meters in the Ocean Division. Directs all phases of operation of a customer satellite office.

Management Responsibilities: Ocean Division Meter Readers (Lakewood & Manahawkin)

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assigns work in a manner that assures maximum production while maintaining safety, high quality and accuracy.

  • Ensure the timely completion of all compliance work.

  • Effectively investigates and resolves customer complaints and assures prompt handling of all customer inquiries related to the meter reading function.

  • Assures that meter readers are provided with necessary equipment, uniforms and transportation.

  • Assures that all employees adhere to all company policies, procedures and standards and that all reports, records and orders are prepared in accordance with company requirements.

  • Assures operational budgets, goals and objectives are met within their framework and that of the Labor Management Agreement.

  • Maintain overtime according to the approved budgeted plan.

  • Informs, instructs and evaluates all direct reports and initiates training when required on an individual or departmental basis.

  • Maintains effective leadership of personnel and sets example through personal conduct, attitude, attendance and performance.

  • Maintains a close working relationship with their fellow supervisors, the department manager and the managers of other departments to ensure that the interests of the customer and the company are properly represented.

  • Provide assistance in coverage for all utility services supervisors in all areas.

  • Motivate and manage department and individual performance toward achievement of goals.

  • Work with team members to develop ways of performing work better, faster and more efficiently for continuous improvement.

  • Perform field evaluations for all direct reports and enter in GO Canvas App.

  • Commit to coaching/disciplining team members and providing feedback in developing their skills and maintaining safe practices on the job.

  • Conducts frequent safety tailgate meetings to ensure all employees are always focused on safety. Ensure monthly, quarterly and yearly reports are completed in a timely manner.

  • Assures that all employees adhere to all company policies, procedures and standards that all reports, records and orders and prepared in accordance with company requirements.

Position Specifications:

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience required

  • Minimum three years of experience in a public utility operation or a related field, or the combined equivalent education and experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, UCIS and FCS

  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
