Ithaca College ACCESS SERVICES MANAGER - LIBRARY in Ithaca, New York

Job Summary:

Manage and coordinate the circulation, reserves, electronic reserves and interlibrary loan activities of the Access Services Unit.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the circulation, reserves, electronic reserves and interlibrary loan activities of the Access Services Unit, including supervision of the Circulation Services Supervisor and Access Services staff members.

  • Ensure efficient handling of all access services transactions.

  • Assess policies, procedures and workflow on an on-going basis, making recommendations for changes to increase efficiency to the College Librarian; implement approved changes.

  • Explain and apply circulation, reserves, electronic reserves and interlibrary loan policies/restrictions on lending and borrowing (e.g. U.S. Copyright law) to library patrons or other libraries, referring unresolved problems to the College Librarian. Adhere to accepted protocols in all interlibrary loan activities.

  • Maintain current knowledge of the library's automated circulation system and Rapid ILL interlibrary loan subsystem, including software, policies and procedures.

  • Design and maintain internal databases to ensure current, accurate and confidential records of all circulation, reserves and interlibrary loan transactions, as well as relevant statistics and reports.

  • Coordinate all interlibrary loan lending and borrowing activities, as well as inter-campus book and document deliveries, including processing requests, patron notification, billing, invoice processing and shipment/return of materials; obtaining books, periodical articles and other materials from other libraries and document delivery services for Ithaca College students, faculty, and staff; and lending Ithaca College Library materials and photocopies of materials to other libraries when requested.

  • Use knowledge of proficiency in the use of Rapid ILL and other print and online bibliographic resources to verify loan requests from Ithaca College library patrons to identify potential lending libraries and their interlibrary loan policies/fees. Request the material from the most appropriate supplier.

  • Interview and hire staff assigned to access services, carry out personnel actions as required.

  • Train, schedule, coordinate and monitor the work of the Access Services staff assigned to Interlibrary Loan on a periodic basis.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years Library experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience, excellent attention to detail, organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, establish prioritizes and meet deadlines, previous supervisor experience and the ability to interact with various constituencies of the College and students. A strong working knowledge of various word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications is required.

This is a hybrid position and should be on campus four days weekly.

This position is 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:

$58,500 - $60,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
