BUCKS COUNTY TRANSPORT INC Paratransit Driver Aide in HOLICONG, Pennsylvania

This employer will be on-site conducting interviews at our Multi-Industry Job Fair which will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the PA CareerLink Bucks County, 4800 E. A Paratransit Aide functions as an Aide to clients and the vehicle driver during transportation to/from residence and facilities. The Aide is responsible for assisting the driver with clients and on occasion, communication with dispatch. The Aide works in partnership with the Driver to ensure that passengers enjoy a high-quality experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must pass a criminal history record check, child abuse history clearance, a pre-employment physical, and a drug and alcohol test; if hired, subject to random drug and alcohol testing and renewal of physical.
  • Should have a good knowledge of the Bucks County area.
  • Must have the ability to follow a schedule/manifest.
  • Must have the ability to complete reports in a timely and legible manner.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and follow oral/written instructions that are provided in English.
  • Must be able to appropriately interact with and serve the consumers of BCT.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Satisfactory completion of a company training program in passenger assistance techniques, including wheelchair securement, sensitivity training, map reading, and all other required trainings by BCT or demonstrated competence based on previous employment experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to report to work up to five days a week from Monday to Friday with variable start times and must be able to physically work for up to ten hours on occasion.
  • Participation, when necessary, in Bucks County Transport, Inc. training sessions at times outside of regular work schedules
  • Must wear company ID badge and provided BCT shirts, jackets or hat and present a neat and clean appearance covering any tattoos that may be considered vulgar and/or offensive and removing or covering any facial piercings (for safety reasons) while on duty at the discretion of the terminal manager.
  • Must be able to maintain regular attendance in accordance with BCT standards.
  • Communicate with supervisory personnel regarding changes in medications that may affect daily performance.
  • Be familiar with the equipment associated with transit vehicles within BCT's fleet and changing operational aspects.
  • Must be able to accurately record hours of work in the online time and attendance system
  • Provides the assistance required to safely board all riders.
  • Assists driver in ensuring passengers and all equipment, are properly secured before starting.
  • Notifies dispatch immediately in the event of any emergency.

Essential Job Duties and Functions:

  • Prepares for daily runs by obtaining assignments/manifests, reviewing posted notices, and communication of irregularities to the supervisor/dispatch.
  • Perform daily housekeeping of assigned vehicle, including checking vehicle for personal items left behind and maintain vehicle appearance according to BCT standards
  • Regularly communicating with passengers and BCT co-workers in a courteous and professional manner regarding questions, concerns, complaints, safety issues, company protocols and any other issues that are related to employment
  • Noting any changes in behavior patterns while a rider is under your supervision
  • Acting appropriately when faced with an emergency situation by utilization of common sense coupled with following BCT protocol and procedures, including passenger management if necessary
  • Following given directions and communicating in English with passengers, dispatchers, drivers, and managers
  • Asking for assistance in understanding app opriate communication methods for riders with limited cognitive skills
  • Writing passenger incident reports in English that are complete and explicit .
  • Verbally intervening in a calm, direct manner if a rider with an emotional disorder becomes agitated.
  • Putting safety first. Always.
  • Must be able to perform all duties regardless of weather, traffic conditions and passenger load conditions.
  • Able to safely perform duties by enforcing passenger safety and conduct rules.
  • Understand and comply with BCT policies and procedures.
  • Collect the appropriate fare when indicated on the manifest and properly record same
  • Completion of various BCT reports (legibly) including accident/incident reports and required paperwork in the timetable established by BCT
  • Regular communication with supervisor regarding questions, concerns, complaints, company protocol and other issues that are related to employment
  • Following company protocol and procedures during shift without direct supervision
  • Be able to act appropriately when faced with an emergency situation by utilization of common sense coupled with following BCT protocol and procedures -- including passenger management if necessary.
  • Ability and competence to utilize communication devices, including two-way radios & tablets.
  • Ability and competence to utilize systems and technology that BCT deems necessary.
  • Be able to follow directions and communication from dispatch and supervisory personnel.
  • Required to present a positive image to all transportation users. Driver Aides are BCT's "public relations staff," and as such, are responsible for friendly, respectful and courteous behavior at all times.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of arms, legs and body torso to climb steps into bus while maintaining three points of contact, assist passengers when necessary and maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when working on slippery surfaces during winter months and in all weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to sit with the use of a seatbelt without discomfort for prolonged periods of time on a variety of seats in different vehicles. Must have the ability to push, pull, grip, bend, crouch, speak, hear and/or kneel. Must be able to reach above shoulder level. Requires the ability of hand-eye coordination to operate various pieces of equipment.
  • Must be able to turn head up to 90 degrees and torso up to 45 degrees in either direction on a regular and frequent basis to observe passengers by use of mirrors, etc.
  • Must be able to pick up at least 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist ambulatory and non-ambulatory passengers on and off the vehicle. Must be able to use coordinated movements (e.g. bending over, stooping or squatting down) to assist the driver in securing mobility devices as instructed
  • Must be able to observe the driver in transferring a passenger, who uses a mobility device, to a regular passenger seat, and report any issues to said driver.
  • Must have the physical/mental ability to quickly assist passengers and maintain composure in times of emergency or passenger incident.
  • Exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
