Tarbell Management Group is a Mohawk, family-owned business that the Tarbell family has operated for over 68 years. The Matriarch of our family, Theresa Bear, started the business in 1953 with just a two-pump fuel station and gift shop on the Saint Regis Mohawk Reservation in northern New York. Our business has transformed over the generations into a large, multi-faceted company comprised of three divisions: Tobacco, Petroleum, and Retail Services. Over the past 68 years, we have accumulated a wealth of experience and knowledge in operating and navigating businesses in Indian Country. We have expertise in operating a vast array of industries including fuel station and convenience store operations, restaurant operations, tobacco manufacturing and wholesaling, trucking, franchise operations, mail-order petroleum wholesale, and fitness center.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Trainer / Learning Experience Designer to join our team in Akwesasne, NY. This role is pivotal in enhancing the skills of our retail and food service teams through comprehensive training programs, content creation, and effective LMS management. If you are passionate about learning and development, have a knack for designing engaging training materials, and possess a strong background in customer service and retail, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Retail and Customer Service Training (50%)
  • Develop and deliver engaging training programs for retail and food service teams and new hire orientation, focusing on customer service excellence and operational skills.

  • Facilitate in-person and virtual training sessions for employees at various levels, ensuring the content is relevant and impactful.

  • Coach and mentor employees to enhance their performance and customer interaction skills.

  • Assess training needs and customize programs to address specific gaps and requirements.

  1. Content Creation (30%)
  • Design and develop high-quality training materials, including presentations (PowerPoint, Canva), e-learning modules (Articulate 360, Storyline), and instructional guides.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance.

  • Implement interactive and engaging instructional techniques to improve knowledge retention.

  • Continuously update and refine training materials based on feedback and evolving industry standards.

  1. LMS Administration (20%)
  • Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) by uploading courses, tracking progress, and generating reports.

  • Coordinate the scheduling and rollout of learning programs across the organization.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for LMS users.

  • Record in-person training and technical qualifications in LMS.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Education, Instructional Design, or related field. Or relevant experience that supplements degree (2-3 years of experience in HR/L&D environment or retail food training experience.)

  • Proven experience in training facilitation and coaching.

  • Strong background in customer service, with the ability to translate customer service principles into training programs.

  • Solid experience in HR and/or Learning and Development (L&D) roles.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Canva, and Teams.

  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS).

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Physical Requirements:

The role primarily involves sedentary work with frequent use of computer and office equipment. The position also requires the ability to stand and present for extended periods, handle and transport training materials, and travel and adapt to different training environments. Effective communication, both verbal and written, is essential for success in this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the retail food service industry is highly desirable.

  • Expertise in Articulate 360 and Storyline for creating e-learning content.

  • Experience with Vyond.

  • Experience with audio and video recording and editing.

  • Knowledge of modern instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles.
