SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is currently recruiting for the position of Critical Care/Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist.

The Critical Care/Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist is an integrated member of the interdisciplinary team. They play an active role in managing medication therapy at the bedside of our sickest patients, including patients presenting to our emergency department with strokes, myocardial infarctions and traumatic injuries as well as in our four adult ICUs (medical, surgical, neurological & cardiac). They also play a role in our code blue response program which has a pharmacist respond to adult code blues 24/7. In addition to their integral role in patient care, the Critical Care/Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist also serves as a resource of drug information for staff and patients and completes prospective order verification, medication histories and patient education. Also, the Critical Care/Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Team collaborates with midlevel providers in the emergency department to review a daily culture report and modify antimicrobial therapy for discharged patients based on results. Additional opportunities include educating a variety of learners including medicine residents, pharmacy residents and pharmacy students. Opportunities to participate in various committees may be offered. This position reports to the Emergency Medicine & Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator All hours worked are focused in the Emergency Department or one of our intensive care units. Schedule is varied (days, evenings and occasional overnights) as well as every third weekend and 2-3 holidays (rotated) annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy required.

  • ASHP-Accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy residency or 3 years of relevant clinical pharmacy experience required.

  • Active and valid PA licensure or eligibility as a Pharmacist required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ASHP-Accredited PGY-2 in Critical Care or Emergency Medicine preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to prioritize and organize daily activities to meet patient care needs required.

  • Effective verbal communication skills, time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities required.

  • Ability to analyze clinical data and perform calculations.

  • Computer and Microsoft Office skills required.

  • Extensive knowledge of pharmacotherapy required.

  • Attention to detail and critical thinking skills required.

  • Effective mentoring and precepting abilities required.
