Bookkeeper

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Bookkeeper to work part time for its Nassau Adult Guardianship Program.

The Bookkeeper is a part-time position paying $25 per hour at 21 hours per week. The program operates between the hours of Monday-Friday 9am-5PM. The office is located in Hempstead, NY. The role reports to the Program Director.

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing client funds as dictated in the Order and Judgment. The Bookkeeper will maintain accurate and detailed accounts of all assets.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and marshal clients income and assets.

  • Identify clients outstanding and ongoing liabilities and expenses and manage the processing of payments for bills and other expenses, using Article 81 approved banking accounts and database.

  • Prepare and review clients financial information for initial, annual, and final accounts reporting

  • File annual tax returns and negotiate back taxes

  • Individualized financial services on an as-needed basis, such as reverse mortgages, managing and making withdrawals from investments, or assist in selling property

  • Submit written progress reports as required by the Department of Social Services and/or Guardianship Court.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma or Educational equivalent required. Bachelors Degree in a related field preferred, Accounting/business certificate with significant experience accepted.

  • Minimum of one-year experiences working in an accounting capacity required.

  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written; must have the ability to work cooperatively with the department of social service professionals and other professionals interfacing with program clients.

  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.

  • Must have access to automobile and possess valid Drivers License.
