suffolk county civil service Deeputy Medical Examiner in haupaugge, New York

An employee in this position performs postmortem examinations in casescoming under the jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner's Office in orderto determine cause of death and manner of death. The work also involvesvisiting scenes of deaths and examining undisturbed bodies in caseswhere there may be a concern of a homicidal manner of death, as well asworking with law enforcement and the District Attorney to assist indirecting the preliminary investigation of such cases. MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS Possession of a license to practice medicine in the Stateof New York and current or prior certification by the American Board ofPathology in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology(AP/CP); and either: Current or prior certification by the AmericanBoard of Pathology in Forensic Pathology (FP); or Completion of twelve(12) months of training in a forensic pathology program accredited bythe Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Candidates who do not currently possess avalid certification by the American Board of Pathology in AnatomicPathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) must obtaincertification within one (1) year of appointment. Candidates who do notcurrently possess a valid certification by the American Board ofPathology in Forensic Pathology (FP) will be required to obtain thiscertification within two (2) years of appointment. Once obtained, allrequired valid board certifications must be maintained throughoutemployment in this title. Please Note: This position requires rotatingweekends and on call availability.
