Pharmacist Clinical Specialist, Emergency Medicine

This is an exciting opportunity for pharmacists with a background in Emergency Medicine to make a significant impact on patient care. As the Pharmacist Clinical Specialist - Emergency Medicine , you will be integral in improving patient outcomes in the emergency department by providing direct care and optimizing medication use for both adult and pediatric populations. You will oversee medication reconciliation, ensure optimal drug selection, and lead initiatives to improve therapeutic outcomes, reduce medication errors, and prevent drug-related issues.

You’ll join a dynamic team with 20+ years of emergency pharmacy experience. This position offers opportunities to engage with a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including medical and nursing staff, outside of pharmacy. As part of your responsibilities, you will provide leadership in medication reconciliation and help implement initiatives to enhance patient safety and improve clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care in the emergency department for adult and pediatric patients

  • Assist with pharmacological management during emergency codes, including drug selection, preparation, dosing recommendations, and monitoring

  • Review and evaluate therapy regimens in the acute care setting, making necessary drug adjustments

  • Offer drug and clinical information to healthcare professionals and provide ongoing education for staff

  • Routinely educate medical, pharmacy, and nursing staff to promote safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy

Qualifications

Education/Accredited Programs:

  • B.S. in Pharmacy required

  • Pharm. D. highly desired

Experience/Proficiencies/Licenses:

  • PGY2 in Emergency Medicine/Critical Care, or 3 years equivalent experience

  • Current, active license to practice pharmacy in New York State or eligibility for reciprocal licensure

  • ACLS and PALS certifications required

  • BCPS, BCCCP, or BCEMP certifications preferred

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy principles related to medication reconciliation and drug therapy review in critical care and emergency settings

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and respond to questions accurately and swiftly

  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgment, tact, and diplomacy while accomplishing program goals

Salary Range

The expected base rate for this position is $51.71 to $73.48 per hour , with the exact rate based on experience, education, and certifications.
