Rowan University Temporary Part Time Hourly Emergency Medical Technician (The Wellness Center - SHS) in Glassboro, New Jersey

Under the direction of the Wellness Center Director, the Chief and Assistant Chief of EMS, the Part-Time EMT will function as a member of the health care team in providing emergency health care services to the student population. Services are provided year-round on all of the campuses which fall under the Rowan University umbrella.

RESPONSILITIES (not limited to):

  • Answers all calls for emergency medical treatment.

  • Drives ambulance to required location, parks ambulance in a safe location, and creates a safe traffic environment by placement of road flares, removal of debris, and redirection of traffic.

  • Determines the nature and extent of injury and establishes priorities for emergency care.

  • Administers emergency care such as opening and maintaining an airway, giving positive pressure ventilation, and cardiac-resuscitation (CPR) and first aid treatment techniques.

  • Maintains communication with dispatch, the hospital & other parties and completes reporting with electronic records and communications.

  • Prepares victims for transportation in an ambulance, including caring for patients for return trips from the hospital.

  • Performs non-emergent transports from campus to area healthcare facilities.

  • Completes the monthly inspection of the AED.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of principles of emergency medical and first aid treatment techniques used to administer pulmonary and cardiac resuscitation (CPR) & techniques used to administer oxygen.

  • The ability to remain calm in an emergency situation while determining the nature and extent of injury and provide emergency medical treatment depending on the patient's condition.

  • Skill to drive an ambulance with caution as well as learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems.

  • The ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

  • Interpersonal skills to build rapport with the patient and work harmoniously with others.

REQUIREMENTS:

Certification- Applicants are required to possess a current and valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Health.

Note: Applicants who possess the higher-level certification as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic, or Mobile Intensive Care Registered Nurse Certification, issued by the New Jersey Department of Health, are considered to have met the above certification requirement.

License- Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.

Hours:

  • This temporary, part-time position is assigned no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week. Work is contracted annually to coincide with the fiscal year and is contingent upon budget appropriate.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
