JOB SUMMARY:

Perform all locksmith functions at the University. Responsible for design, installation and repair of door locking (control) mechanisms, locks, making keys and maintaining records and files regarding lock assignments, door-room numbers and person’s issued keys.

The anticipated start date for this position will be around September 1st.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Public Safety and Security

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Specify door control locks, handles and security hardware.

  • Design lock core and keying system for the University.

  • Maintain files and computer records, key codes and key inventory records.

  • Respond to calls for service day or night, when directed.

  • Oversee and direct the hourly junior locksmith work orders and time sheets.

  • Assist facilities department with renovations and new construction.

  • Order lock-key supplies, maintain inventory.

  • Maintain locksmith service vehicle.

  • Maintain and repair university parking entrance gates.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Strong computer skills for using Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and Email.

  • Knowledge of biometric access devices.

  • Understand low voltage wiring as applies to door hardware and electric strike plates.

  • Building codes, laws and standard practices related to locksmith trade including hardware.

  • Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to change doors and lift heavy inventory boxes.

    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma is required.

  • Must be a licensed locksmith.

  • Eight years of locksmith experience is required.

  • Medeco Keymark Training Certificate and NYC Locksmith License is preferred.

  • Member of a Professional Locksmith Organization (ALOA or equivalent).

  • Familiar with ADA & Life safety codes.

  • Ability to be on 24 hour on call duty for emergency response.

  • Junior Locksmith – Hourly.
