UPMC Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) | Safe Harbor Behavioral Health in Erie, Pennsylvania

Every year, millions of Americans navigate the challenges of living with a mental health condition. At UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Safe Harbor, we are dedicated to making a difference by expanding access to essential mental health resources for those in Erie and surrounding counties.

We are excited to invite a compassionate and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team, working in collaboration with our prescribers, therapists, and case managers to provide crucial support to underserved individuals struggling with mental health issues or substance use disorders.

As an LPN, you will play an integral role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of personalized nursing care, utilizing your clinical expertise and sound judgment. You will provide care, including IV therapy, in alignment with UPMC’s LPN Practice Guidelines, policies, and state regulations.

As the ideal candidate, you will have an active LPN license in good standing, be CPR certified, and demonstrate flexibility in your approach to patient care. While prior experience in a mental health setting is preferred, it is not required. This is a full-time, daylight position, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care using sound judgement.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate care.

  • Communicate when care exceeds scope or if a patient’s condition changes.

  • Follow policies and seek guidance.

  • Set goals and care plans with patients.

  • Document and communicate thoroughly.

  • Improve patient safety, qualify and satisfaction.

  • Build relationships and support new staff.

  • Perform duties as assigned.

  • Completion of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.

  • In order to perform any IV therapy, must have successfully completed the IV therapy curriculum.

  • If graduated in 2012 to present day, IV therapy curriculum is included in the PA State Board Approved Programs. If graduated prior to 2012, the LPN will need to provide official proof of completion of IV therapy approved program.

  • LPNs without this training will not be permitted to perform IV therapy.

  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities to improve patient care and encompasses collaboration with the health care team and the patients and families to achieve desired patient outcomes.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

LPN must maintain state licensure where they are practicing or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. In order to perform IV therapy, and if graduated prior to 2012, the LPN will need to provide official proof of completion of IV therapy approved program. Basic Life Support OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
