The Principal of Maple West Elementary School will serve as a member of the Williamsville Administrator leadership team under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction to foster and facilitate a culturally responsive and inclusive community that empowers all students to develop their unique potential and thrive as learners, citizens, and leaders in a diverse global community. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills that foster relationships with teachers, staff, students, and parents. Our ideal candidate must have the followingqualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in education, including teaching, supervision, and/or administration.

  • A valid New York State Certificate as a School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS), School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SBL).

  • Graduate study beyond the Master's Degree with emphasis on leadership and instruction.

The ideal candidate can expect the followingresponsibilities:

Instructional Leadership:

  • Provide leadership to all staff and students in establishing and maintaining a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and student-focused school culture.

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates instructional methods, and the delivery of instruction; collaborates with stakeholders to implement changes and improvements while constantly striving to enhance the educational experience for all students.

  • Evaluate lesson plans and observe classes/teachers regularly to support the use of strategies, materials, and research aligned to best practices for learning and child growth and development.

  • Supervises and evaluates classified building staff; encourages professional growth and development.

  • Holds teachers accountable for meeting high standards for student academic and behavioral performance.

  • Works with the School Leadership Team, and manages teachers' administrative duties and school-wide administrative tasks.

  • Plans, delivers, and supports appropriate professional development for all teachers, and coordinates programs of professional growth for all staff.

  • Leads faculty to ensure that all staff are providing standards-aligned and rigorous daily lessons and regular and productive interventions.

  • Works in partnership with the Office of Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction regarding the implementation of curriculum and Instructional Programs.

  • Coordinates the school's pupil services program, and coordinates with the Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education and Student Services; provides for the general supervision and coordination of all support staff and the services they provide.

Student, Faculty, Staff & Community Relations:

  • Understands the roles that climate and culture plays in a school setting and ensures one's own commitment to being a visible presence and active member of the school and District community.

  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and develops meaningful, engaging professional relationships with staff, faculty, students, and families.

  • Promotes, supports, and communicates with stakeholders as a positive ambassador for Mill and for the District.

  • Promotes an environment of participative involvement of students in their education, extra-curricular activities, and the operations of the school when matters are a direct relationship to the students.

  • Serves as the communication liaison between the school and the community interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging participation in school life.

  • Assists in developing a program of public relations in order to further the community's understanding and support of the educational program.

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student performance and academic achievement; respond to family concerns promptly and effectively.

  • Works with staff to plan, coordinate, and support family meetings and special events.

  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Building Organization & Supervision:

  • Participates in school district planning and decision making consistent with the District's Missions, and Belief Statements, the District's Strategic plan, and the District's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Plan.

  • Assists in screening, interviewing and recommending qualified candidates for positions on the school staff and in the orientation of new personnel.

  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students through interim reports, report cards and parent conferences.

  • Maintains a code of student conduct and coordinates the enforcement of disciplinary policies.

  • Supervises the safety, administration and maintenance of the school building and all physical inventory contained therein.

  • Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests for purchases and repairs and monitors the expenditures of school funds; ensures that the school runs smoothly, efficiently, and on budget

Collection, Analysis, and Utilization of Data:

  • Creates a data informed school culture focused on the whole child.

  • Analyzes data with teachers regularly to maximize student performance.

  • Analyzes student achievement data as well as teacher performance data on variety of metrics, both quantitative and qualitative, and use information to collaborate with leadership team.

  • Ensures that every student shows achievement gains and that the school meets the ambitious performance goals set by our school.

  • Coordinates administration of all standardized student assessments and evaluations, including New York State Assessments, Regents exams, interim assessments, and nationally normed assessments.

Personal Development and Other Duties

  • With a growth mindset and in the spirit of continuous improvement, advances one's own understanding and individual capacity through professional learning, including participation in District-provided or directed staff development and training offerings or opportunities.

  • Seeks out and actively participates in professional activities and organizations.

  • Attends regional/state/national conferences to identify and implement best practices.

  • Performs and completes other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.

SALARY: Minimum of $106,000 - $116,050 - Per Williamsville Administrators' Association contract & experience.
