Job Summary
The Mammography Technologist II is responsible for performing mammography procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease. This role involves operating mammography equipment, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and maintaining accurate records of procedures.
Essential Functions
Organizes and prioritizes workflow.
Routinely holds meetings to keep the staff informed of any new policy changes. Attends monthly staff meetings to keep appraised of changes within the department.
Maintains good department rapport with radiologists, and hospital team members. Maintains a level of high morale and dignity while acting as a mentor to staff.
Keeps current records of all quality controls and regulatory requirements.
Coordinates and leads the mammography area by example.
Assists the diagnostic Imaging or other modalities as needed. Performing x-rays, surgeries, office work, computer entry.
Oversees staff performance/performs all duties in mammography tracking system to keep mammography notifications and other criteria current.
Verifies all data in PACS and RIS are completed at the end of shift.
Checks emergency equipment, stocks, cleans, and ensures work area is prepared.
Technologist maintains and utilizes current knowledge of radiation protection practices.
Practices appropriate protocol as it relates to self-requesting mammography patients (if applicable).
Properly identifies patient, prepares patient for, and provides post procedure instructions for invasive breast procedures.
Follows all FDA/MQSA regulations for compliance and maintains survey readiness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Associate Degree graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology required
Associate Degree graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with registry in Mammography preferred
2-4 years experience in mammography. required
1-2 years prior experience in supervision preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formAbility to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure
Ability to understand and follow instructions
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals and external vendors
Ability to operate and understand radiographic technology and equipment/applications
Basic computer skills
Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors at all times
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy and comply with all HIPPA requirements
Ability to use initiative and independent judgment
Knowledge of radiation safety and protection procedures
Licenses and Certifications
ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required
Licensed Building Inspector As required by state required
BCLS - Basic Life Support required
