Laboratory Technician Inspector

Job Summary& Essential Functions: The following describes in general terms thepurpose and scope of the position.

Perform anddocument the results of the specialized testing performed on products andprocesses at DASNY in the manufacture of product for the Aerospace Industry. Perform calibration of special equipment used in testing and product processing.

  • Conduct periodic (daily, weekly, and monthly, or as otherwise required) checks on all Manufacturing Controlled Process as specified in internal procedures.
  • Make the necessary allowable adjustment to the Manufacturing operating process to maintain the processes within acceptable limits.
  • Identify and report to the Quality Manager any controlled process that is discovered to be operating outside of the allowable operating limits.
  • Work with Cell members to resolve issues, and problems, including safety concerns, with the daily operation of special processes.
  • Work with Cell member to improve the equipment and/or Process to increase the efficiency of the existing special processes, which are performed in a Cell.
  • Aid in the development of the new Quality procedures to support the implementation of new processes at DASNY, or in the Cells.
  • Train others on the proper method for the calibrations of tools used in Cells.
    Maintain Master Calibration information records for all inspection hand tools in Compliant Pro.
  • Monitor consumables used in the laboratory; obtain quotes and submit requisitions to maintain stock as needed.
  • Coordinate calibration and testing services performed by outside contractors; interpretation and documentation of the results.
  • Preparation, processing and testing of material samples for initial and periodic process qualification.
  • Perform metallographic inspection for lot acceptance testing to support Manufacturing.
  • Investigate test failures and document associated root cause/corrective action activity.
  • Interact with auditors from customers and industry organizations which evaluate Ducommun's processes, and participate in internal pre-audit assessments.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.
  • Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Annual baseline hearing test is required.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

RequiredExperience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possessthe outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years ofexperience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order tobe considered.

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or two to three years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In order to be able to perform the job successfully the Laboratory Technician Inspector shall be required to have training on some or all of the following items:
    • Problem Solving
    • Auditing
    • SPC Data Collection and Interpretation
    • Inspection Tool Usage
    • Inspection Tool Calibration
    • Blueprint/Mylar reading

Work Environment and SafetyEquipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here arerepresentative of those an employee encounters while performing the essentialfunctions of the job. Safety glasses,safety shoes and other designated personal protective equipment as required forthe position.

  • Working conditions are: 50% manufacturing environment, 50% laboratory environment.
  • Regularly required to work with chemical reagents, and concentrated acids and bases
  • Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles.
  • Noise level is usually loud.
  • Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
  • Fully enclosed shoes of solid, leather construction with a steel or composite toe cap (ANSI Z41 compliant) must be worn in all manufacturing areas.
