Assistant Director of Lifestyle Enrichment

Facility: Lutheran Home of CNY/ Department : Activities Lutheran Home Cottage

Reports To : Director of Adult Home Classification : Hourly Lifestyle Enrichment

General Description

The Assistant Director of Lifestyle Enrichment shall be responsible for maintaining an organized and diversified program of individual and group activities, which will enable each Resident to engage in cultural, spiritual, physical, social and cognitive activities within the facilities and the community. This program should sustain and promote an individual’s potential and sense of usefulness to self and others. Programming for The Cottage should reflect the capabilities of residents with dementia.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares a current monthly schedule of activities. Posts it in places that are easily accessible to the residents and team members. This schedule should identify the locations, time, provider of each activity and a facility team member contact person. This schedule should be posted one week in advance.

  • Each Resident must have a minimum of ten hours of Activities each week available.

  • All activities must take into account and reflect the age, sex, physical and mental capabilities, interests, cultural and social background of the residents.

  • Coordinates programs and activities for group and individual participation. Programs should include physical, cognitive, spiritual, cultural and social activities.

  • Is available to direct activities evenings and weekends, as needed, as well as weekdays.

  • Transports residents to outside activities.

  • Assists the Chaplain in providing special religious events for residents.

  • Maintains equipment and inventory supplies to implement the program of activities.

  • Requests volunteers to assist with programs as needed.

  • Attends all safety-related in-service classes as required by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards and adheres to the requirements of the LutheranCare Charitable Network (LCCN) Safety Programs, and attends all facility in service programs and training.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Adult Home Lifestyle Enrichment.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Education: Associates Degree from an accredited college or university, with major work in recreation or related field.

  • Experience of two (2) or more years of full time experience in recreation field or activities; with the dependent adult population.

  • Ability to establish effective communication with professional community members and agencies as demonstrated through prior experience.

  • Able to maintain confidential information.

  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times angry people

  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.

    Personal Requirements

  • Appropriate attire as required by department dress code.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Must be able to lead and participate in recreational activities. (dancing, crafts, games, etc)

  • Complies with the code of conduct and proper badge identification.

  • Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license.

    Physical Requirements :

  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.

  • Subject to frequent interruptions.

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

  • Must be in good health; be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of this position.

  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.

    Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to LCCN policies and HIPAA regulations governing the confidentiality and security of protected health information for both manual and electronic patient records, charts, information and other confidential information including (but not limited to) employee records, computer access codes and passwords.
