About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]

Under directive or general directive supervision, receives, stores and disburses line material and supplies in a district storeroom; handles trouble calls and performs clerical functions in connection with storeroom and Line Section activities in a district headquarters;

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing requisitions for material to meet the line material requirements of a district; checking such requisitions against the stock register and bin records;

  • Checking received material against purchase orders; storing materials in a systematic and orderly manner; preparing material received reports;

  • Loading and unloading materials and supplies; crating and uncrating material and equipment; arranging stock and properly caring for same;

  • Maintaining a prescribed balance of required stock items;

  • Maintaining a perpetual inventory; taking physical inventories, as prescribed;

  • Issuing material to authorized persons and receiving returned material; controlling such operations through the use of issue and credit slips;

  • Receiving and inspecting materials brought in by crews; determining which items to salvage or scrap; making arrangements to recondition salvageable items;

  • Obtaining materials and supplies for scheduled work; placing same in boxes or bins for pick-up by crews;

  • Maintaining an adequate supply of hand tools, gloves, body belts and safety devices; issuing such items; notifying designated department by letter for billing or payroll deduction; maintaining records in connection with the issuing of such items;

  • Maintaining records of gasoline and oil in stock and used; reordering and receiving replenishment of such items and maintaining records in that connection;

  • Following up on return of reels and containers on which there are deposits; expediting their return at earliest date;

  • Receiving and maintaining files of job orders; making out material tickets for jobs to provide sufficient materials and supplies; issuing jobs in accordance with established schedule;

  • Coordinating meter orders with service drop work; maintaining service drop records;

  • Receiving and recording all telephone trouble calls; notifying customer of charges for fuse replacements; making out trouble tickets and issuing to servicemen or line crews;

  • Making up work orders for crews for emergency work, as directed;

  • Recording information on poles broken in the field or other damage to Company property; contacting police authorities to obtain information, if necessary; making out reports on such matters and forwarding them to designated location;

  • Receiving money turned in by servicemen, as required; maintaining records of money received and balancing amounts received with records;

  • Selling old poles at prescribed prices and receiving payment for such sales, as required;

  • Accounting for all money received and turning in same to teller;

  • Maintaining petty cash fund, as required; making small local purchases as required; making out vouchers for reimbursement;

  • Receiving and transmitting telephone calls; referring caller to appropriate party; taking messages;

  • Receiving and transmitting messages by short wave radio; logging such operations;

  • Checking time sheets; making out time sheets, as required; checking that time is properly distributed to job orders or accounts;

  • Maintaining personnel records such as employment record cards and employee status cards;

  • Performing other clerical functions such as maintaining files, typing and keeping records in connection with the work;

  • Driving Company vehicles, as required;

  • Maintaining a high standard of good housekeeping in the storeroom, service building and yard; making arrangements for miscellaneous building maintenance work, as required or as directed;

  • Directing and training employees as assigned to the work; and

  • Performing other work, as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Must have at least one year’s experience with the Company, preferably in the Stores or Line Section;

  • Must be a senior high school graduate, or the equivalent;

  • Must be familiar with the materials, equipment and supplies carried in stock;

  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of the record systems used in connection with the work;

  • Must be able to make neat, concise and clear records and reports;

  • Must have a cooperative temperament and be able to maintain harmony with employees and others with whom the work must be coordinated;

  • Must be able to direct the work of others in an efficient and cooperative manner;

  • Must be neat and orderly in the work; and

  • Must pass motor vehicle operator tests prescribed by the Company and must possess a valid State of Ohio, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Operator’s Permit and a valid Company Motor Vehicle Operator’s Permit.
