JFED Property Maintenance Technician

Job Description

Jewish Federation and Jewish Community Properties seek a qualified property maintenance technician to provide both preventative and responsive hands-on maintenance ability and skills in a variety of trades related to proper care of multiple local facilities (large active recreation community center, residential apartment complex, early childhood center, private day school, food pantry, etc.) Skills necessary include general construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general carpentry, painting, and miscellaneous equipment repair.

Maintenance Property Technician Duties & Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair problems in such areas as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, emergency systems, flooring, hardware accessories, masonry, painting/wallpaper, water features (pools, spas), fitness equipment, etc.

  • General maintenance of properties involving basic troubleshooting, small appliance repair, electrical / plumbing work, carpentry, painting, etc.

  • Assist in conducting routine and periodic inspections to identify safety and risk management concerns, keep the facilities in good condition, and communicate concerns about the physical needs of the facility to management.

  • Diagnose problems and repairs in the areas of electrical, plumbing, general maintenance and more.

  • Work directly with JFED team members to diagnose, assess, and repair issues (example; correct plumbing issue in bathroom).

  • Perform painting projects ranging from full interior painting of property unit to minor touch up and repair of walls and woodwork.

  • Respond to plumbing and heating related emergencies, which may include after-hours response from normal daily work schedule to meet Agency/ Department needs.

  • Complete assigned work orders generated from team members requests for service, routine upkeep on the property by diagnosing the source or cause of the problem, and making repairs in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety standards, and code requirements.

  • Assist in both the preventative and when needed timely responsive care of facilities (classrooms, staff offices, corridors, fitness center, locker rooms, auditorium, etc.) as needed through periodic walk-through and inspection, creating a “punch' list of maintenance work needed, scheduling vendors and contractors as needed, obtaining needed supplies and materials, completing all maintenance tasks, and inspecting completed work.

  • Complete documentation and other paperwork timely and accurately so that service requests can be appropriately documented and tracked.

  • May periodically inspect work performed by contractors and other service providers to verify the work, materials and services meet quality standards, scope and specifications as required.

Maintenance Technician Qualifications

  • College degree, and / or Technical or vocational education certificate preferred.

  • Proficient skill in all trades and expert level in at least two trades.

  • 2+ years related experience or education.

  • Proficient computer skills and ability to track work orders / task completion via electronic means.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in property management maintenance or equivalent.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in plumbing, electric, HVAC maintenance, lighting, general repair, carpentry, painting, trouble shooting and diagnosis of problems.

  • Understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and precautions.

  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Operate a motor vehicle to transport tools and materials between work sites.

  • Proficient in customer service and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with co-workers, residents, vendors, and other business contacts.

  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, mechanical equipment and measuring devices.

  • Experience with using property management software or CMMS software would be a plus.

    Licensing or Certifications for Maintenance Technician

  • EPA, II, HVAC knowledge strong skills in electric, plumbing, carpentry, etc.

  • EPA Type II or Universal certification beneficial
