Employment Horizons Culinary Arts Intern in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey

Employment Horizons is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting people with barriers to employment in achieving their individual vocational objectives and establishing self-sufficiency in the community.Position Overview:We are seeking a Culinary Arts Intern to join our team and assist with the Culinary Arts class by supporting, motivating, and training adults with disabilities to prepare for careers in the food service industry.Schedule: This internship requires a commitment of two days per week from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The program runs Monday through Thursday, and interns can choose which two days they work.Summer Program: 07/21/2025 to 09/26/2025Key Responsibilities:Be familiar with program participant names, goals, and abilitiesMaintain a clean, neat, and safe work areaTrain program participants in correct and efficient procedures, including preparation, presentation, sanitization, storage, and servingUtilize praise to reinforce program participants’ positive work habits and attitudesUse alternative techniques to instruct program participants when traditional methods are unsuccessfulRequired Qualifications:Be enrolled in a related degree program, such as culinary arts or nutrition.Experience in a commercial kitchen.Intermediate culinary arts skills.Good organization skills.Excellent oral communication and listening skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a time-oriented atmosphere.Have a positive can-do attitude.Ability to handle multiple tasks.A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.Physical Demands & Work Environment:While performing the duties of this position, the intern is regularly required to talk or hear. They are frequently required to use their hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. They will be occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities this position requires include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
