General Trading Co. Inc. Director of Safety & Security in Carlstadt, New Jersey
Description: The Director of Safety & Security is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations at General Trading. This role also oversees the security function which includes protecting the property of the company which includes the building, employees, and all its merchandise, equipment and records.
Job Functions:
Safety:
Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
Provides technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
Reviews accident and incident reports and conducts investigations when necessary.
Collaborate with federal, state, and local regulatory officials to resolve compliance or practice violations.
Familiarity of OSHA, Root Cause Investigation, Incident Investigation procedures, Hazard Assessment, Job Safety Assessments.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Security:
Provide strategic oversight of security operations, infrastructure, technology, and personnel.
Develop security rules and procedures for adoption by top management.
Assure that all alarm systems and video equipment in use in company facilities are maintained and tested regularly
Staff, train, evaluate, and develop the security team
Investigate thefts, incidents of shortages, break-ins, worker accidents, rumors about malefactors in the company, and any suspicious activity where it appears that the company may be a victim of fraud.
Instruct supervisors on the danger signs they should be aware of concerning employees, merchandise, equipment, and building.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field preferred.
ASP (Associate Safety Professional) desirable
CSP (Certified Safety Professional) is desirable
At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.
Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to conduct training.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Experience in using relevant technology and equipment (CCTV)
