U.S. Army War College Post Doctoral Fellow in Emerging Technology, Data and Artificial Intelligence in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania

Summary About the Position: This is a full-time civilian faculty position at the U.S. Army War College as provided under Title 10 USC 4021. The appointment is for one year and may be renewed for a second year subject to job performance and availability of funding. Responsibilities You will serve as the Emerging Technology, Data and Artificial Intelligence Post-Doctoral fellow. Conduct research on these topics and contribute to the development, planning, and teaching of core and elective courses in the Resident Education Program and associated curriculum. Engage in scholarship that advances knowledge in fields related to the application of emerging technologies with a focus on data and artificial intelligence to military strategy and operations. Lead collaborative research teams comprised of students and faculty. Develop lessons, teach, and assess in core and elective courses related to the application of emerging technologies with a focus on data and artificial intelligence to military strategy and operations. Courses focus on military power, theater-level ops, senior military leadership, military history and strategy, operational design, and evolving defense capabilities/concepts. You will counsel faculty and students on subjects related to emerging technologies related to military strategy and the application of military power in support of national security objectives. Coordinate with and provide subject matter expertise to external agencies on behalf of the U.S. Army War College. Connecting with other PME institutions, civilian graduate programs, and national security think tanks. Assist a primary instructor teaching a 25 lesson Military Strategy and Campaigning course in the Resident Education Program and co-teach one 10-lesson elective focused on technology, data, and artificial intelligence. Advise faculty on how to incorporate emerging technologies with a focus on data and artificial intelligence across the School of Strategic Landpower curriculum. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: Who May Appy: US Citizens This is a full-time temporary appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 1 year starting on or about summer 2024, but no later than 1 August 2024. Temporary appointments may be extended in up to 1-year increments. Qualification Requirements: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position such as political science, international relations, government, history, security studies, intelligence, etc; or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above, applicants will be rated on the following: SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated on the criteria listed below: 1. Record of scholarship commensurate with the rank of assistant professor, or evidence of great potential for appropriate research and publication in areas relevant to the DMSPO curriculum, as established in paragraph (1) of duties listed above. This includes peer reviewed publications, on-line engagements, and other media. 2. Established record of teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. 3. Ability to collaborate with and develop the skills of faculty colleagues in the conceptualization, design, and preparation of lesson plans for others to teach. 4. Academic Accomplishment: A master's degree in a relevant field such as political science, international relations, government, history, security studies, strategic studies, intelligence, or a related field with research focused on technology, data, and artificial intelligence with a PhD or equivalent evidence of original scholarly research and scholarship consistent with the rank of assistant professor preferred. 5. Ability and desire to work collegially with diverse (military, civilian, foreign) graduate students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Recruitment and Relocation Incentives may be authorized. This position is not eligible for regular and recurring telework. This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule. Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework.
