Responsibilities Performs general labor, event and facility support operations, along with minor maintenance and repair work within the United States Army War College (USAWC). Performs duties associated with the routine sustainment and physical operation of the USAWC. Performs wall and glass maintenance duties. Arranges ceremonial sites for promotions, awards, retirements, etc. Performs general equipment maintenance and minor repairs. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an MAINTENANCE WORKER (MVO/FLO) without more than normal supervision. Performing Maintenance Mechanic duties that include 1) carpentry, painting and/or building maintenance; 2) operating a variety of hand and/or power tools and/or equipment such as hammers, handsaws, drills and/or power saws; 3) operating various types of forklift trucks; AND 4) applying basic shop math to plan, layout, measure, cut, construct and/or install materials. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work is performed outside, inside the building or in a warehouse. The majority of the work requires extended periods of standing while operating hand tools such as hammers, saws, screw drivers, paint brushes, lawn mowers. Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes necessary when handling heavy and bulky materials, when moving partitions, building door frames, and moving other construction materials. The work requires bending, stooping, crawling and climbing on ladders. The employee may lift up to 40 lbs unassisted. Working Conditions: Some of the work is performed in the warehouse area where the employee is exposed to moderate noise levels from operating machinery, fumes, hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. When working outside, employees are exposed to weather conditions. They are subject to cuts, bruises and contusions. At times, they are subject to confined areas when assembling and reassembling portable room dividers. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
