Pennsylvania State Job Bank CNC Programmer in CARBONDALE, Pennsylvania

 

PURPOSE:

Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

LANGUAGE SKILLS

· Ability to read and comprehend instructions.

· Ability to write correspondence as needed. 

· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILL AND ABILITIES

· Ability to use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools. 

· Computer proficiency is required. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances  (GD&T).
  • Programs CNC machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up CNC machines to meet production requirements and tolerances.
  • Services as pick & place operator to ensure dimensions and quality first pass yield.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to required standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes;  adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Must be flexible to perform other job duties as necessary. This may include other departments. 
  • Performs equipment calibrations as necessary 

Requirements

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

  • Must be able to read blueprints, technical drawings, procedure manuals, and work instructions.
  • Minimum of 2 years machining experience with advanced knowledge of machining operations and tolerances.
  • Knowledge of Mastercam software is preferred, but not required
  • High school diploma / GED
  • Technical Degree preferred but not required

The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distanc vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise. May be required to wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to safety glasses, hand protection, ear protection, as well as steel toe shoes. May encounter or be required to work with various types of chemicals.

 

TRAVEL:

Generally, travel is not required

Gentex's Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia.
