NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION : The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Tonja M. Williams Knight, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for full time (Daily rate) teaching positions at:

PS #79 – William J. Grabiarz School of Excellence (7:50 am – 3:05 pm)

PS #89 – Dr. Lydia T. Wright School of Excellence (8:50 am – 4:05 pm)

PS #93 – Southside Elementary (8:50 am – 4:05 pm)

Hours and locations are subject to change based upon student needs and budget

Travel between sites may be required

Teachers may need to provide remote instruction for students who are medically exempt or in the event a student needs to quarantine.

Classes to be held: July 7 – August 15, 2025

QUALIFICATIONS : Candidates must be New York State or Buffalo certified in the tenure area that they are applying to work in (ie- Speech, Vision, Hearing). Priority in the selection of teachers will be given to qualified permanent/ tenured/probationary/temporary Buffalo Public School teachers in order of summer school seniority. Summer school seniority is defined as previous years of BPS summer employment in a classroom setting. Only current and active BPS employees earn summer school seniority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Social Worker and Counselor):

  • Work individually or in a group with students in need of support services and counseling, offer strategies and support to families/guardians

  • Support teachers with the implementation of Positive Behavior Supports/Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.

  • Provide clinical interventions with parents, based on an assessment of the family’s needs, in order to reinforce emotional or behavioral strategies with their children

  • Coordinates/monitors PBIS Social Academic Instructional Groups (SAIG) and other Tier 2 Interventions; maintains data on students; progress monitor students participating in this intervention

  • Complete IEP mandated counseling for students attending ESY as described by their IEPs

  • Provide crisis Intervention; provide crisis prevention and de-escalation to avert such crisis

  • Performs any assigned duties as deemed necessary and appropriate

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Psychologist):

  • Conduct pattern determination and MDRs in accordance with NYS regulations for Students with Disabilities 504 and presumed disabilities as needed

  • Implement Social /Academic Instructional Groups and other Tier 2 and 3 interventions

  • Coordinate, maintain and submit data tracking for MTSS interventions

  • Support all teachers with the strategies for effective implementation of Secondary and Tertiary Interventions

  • Work with the general and special education teachers in classrooms to provided academic and behavioral strategies for students

  • Work with teachers and staff to implement Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) and Behavioral Support Plans (BSP)

  • Provide recommendations for differentiated interventions so students with academic and behavioral difficulties can access the general education curriculum

  • Support teachers and administrators with professional advisement and strategies on proposed educational and behavioral interventions for students

  • Provide crisis Intervention; provide crisis prevention and de-escalation to avert such crisis

  • Perform any assigned duties as deemed necessary and appropriate

    IMPORTANT NOTICE: Candidates for Buffalo Public Schools Summer School are eligible to work for only one of the programs.

    Please review the dates carefully. FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE STUDENTS AND CONTINUITY OF THE PROGRAM, TEACHERS ARE EXPECTED TO SERVE THE FULL TERM OF THE PROGRAM.

    APPOINTMENT: Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of summer school seniority, training, credentials, certifications and evaluation of service. Interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate. Teachers currently teaching at above schools should also apply to the internal posting. All internal candidates currently assigned to these schools will receive appointments before qualified BTF members not assigned to these locations.
