PURPOSE: The Student Support role provides leadership and direction at the K-4 grade levels by working proactively to create a thriving school culture based upon Tapestry's core values. This role is essential to collaborate with the team that works closest with the student to provide behavioral interventions and social-emotional learning (SEL) support based upon relationship building, creating a safe and productive environment, maintain clear and accurate records and providing ongoing support to the K-4 Community using research-based practices that are rooted in restorative justice. Communication both positively and proactively will be the key to building a synergistic team of support for students with an end goal of students being more self-aware, being able to self-regulate, have increased social awareness, develop & maintain healthy relationships and make decisions responsibly.

Discipline & Restoration

  • Use restorative practices that include:

  • Peer mediation

  • Circles

  • Conflict-resolution

  • Restorative questioning

  • De-escalation techniques

  • Affective Statements

  • Support student reflection on Tapestry's PIRR traits while utilizing reflections for common areas, including:

    ○ Bathrooms, Cafeteria, Entering/Exit the building, hallways, Gym, Library, and the front office.

    ○ During experiences when students need to be an engaged audience member both inside and outside of the classroom (guest speakers, experts, Intensives, and field work).

  • Supervise lunches in the cafe' and also hold SEL focused lunch bunch groups (on a structured scheduled).

  • Serve as a check in/check out coordinator (CICO) around goals that have been developed and identified for students.

Creating a Safe and Productive School Environment

  • Develop structures that provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.

  • Actively supervise students to ensure a safe, nurturing environment where students can thrive.

  • When needed, offer additional support through substitute teaching in the classroom

  • Supervision schedule can include:

  • Classroom support during instructional time.

  • Cafeteria during assigned grade lunches.

  • Front foyer/outside during and after dismissal.

  • Hallway supervision including sweeps, monitor first 5 and last 5 minutes of class.

  • Refer to the K-4 Code of Conduct to ensure the continued development of a safe and nurturing community.

  • Report any immediate social/emotional behaviors that are of concern to the school counselor and/or Assistant Principal.

  • Participate in Climate Team (Principal, Assistant Principal, School Counselor, Student supports) Meetings weekly.

Maintain clear and accurate records

  • Accurately reporting behaviors including positive communication as outlined in the K-4 Code of Conduct. Maintain a record of student progress by logging behavioral interventions into Powerschool and

  • Maintain a record of student progress through a Check-In/Check Out system for specific students and behaviors.

  • Implement Code of Conduct using behavior tracking systems and communicate with involved staff members.

  • Follow the PIRR and school-wide initiatives around behavior in common areas including:

  • Bathrooms, Cafeteria, Entering/Exit the building, hallways, Library, Gym, and the front office.

  • Communicate & document communication with families regarding behavioral, social, attendance & academic data, goals and needs.

Provide ongoing support

  • Work cooperatively with building administrators to:

  • promote positive student behavior through proactive and strategic moves that target research-based strategies.

  • modeling of instructional practices to support teachers.

  • Implementation of behavioral supports as aligned to plans.

  • Knowledge and application of the Tapestry Code of Conduct and Behavior Tracking System.

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve district, building, departmental and/or grade-level goals.

School-wide Duties

  • Assist with arrival, dismissal & lunch duties when needed.

  • Weekly meetings with the Assistant Principal and leadership team.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00 DOE
