Summary:
The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for installation, repairs, upgrades and maintenance of mechanical/electrical HVAC systems and the associated pneumatic/electric/electronic controls. Troubleshoots and resolves a variety of system problems. May be required to work outside the normal job classification to facilitate workflow.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED
Two (2) year AAS degree in mechanical or electrical field preferred
Universal EPA Certification required
EXPERIENCE
At least five (5) years' experience in commercial installation and service required
At least six (6) years' experience as a Mechanical Technician or actual experience performing the work required
Computer operation and DDC controls experience preferred
First Class stationary license required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Advanced knowledge of refrigeration and heating application and design
Excellent knowledge of HVAC systems, the theory of component operation and overall system interaction
Must be able to read blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
Knowledge of codes as they pertain to skill
Understands Control Theory - inputs/outputs, sensors, controllers and their purpose, control devices, sequence of operations, control logic
Has HVAC system understanding - complex AHU operation (variable volume and constant volume), valance systems, heat pump systems, cooling systems, economizer operation, variable frequency drive theory and operation, fan wall theory and operation, heat recovery operation
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT
Frequent exposure to many disagreeable physical conditions.
Willingness to work in a hot, dirty, noisy area.
Normal hazard and physical requirements of the craft, to include walking, standing stooping, kneeling, crouching, turning and working in awkward positions and ability to climb ladders and work in high places.
