The Director of Clinical Education and Care Management is responsible for educating clinical staff according to professional standards, regulations, and best practice using a variety of teaching methods in an ambulatory care setting. Facilitates achievement of role clarity, professional role confidence and development, and proficiency in clinical skills. Collaborate with leadership and clinical staff to improve quality of care and regulatory compliance. Oversees the operations and development of specialty nursing, including care management and chronic disease management. Operates as a change agent in the clinical practice and classroom setting compliance.

As part of the essential functions of this role, the Director of Clinical Education and Care Management:

  • Formulates and implements curriculum for new hire orientation, continuing education, and skills training sessions, employing strategies and techniques to promote positive learning and practice environments.

  • Oversees specialty nursing, including care management, injectable medications, PT/INR, etc.

  • Evaluate new hire orientation process on an ongoing basis.

  • Assist with staff training based on prescribed courses and program learning needs.

  • Constantly assessing the learning needs of staff in a methodical, approved manner.

  • Develop training and education material for clinical staff, including skills fairs, educational in-services, annual mandatory training, live and hybrid classes.

  • Develop and perform annual clinical skills competency for all clinical staff.

  • Participate in clinical rounds to identify educational needs, practice concerns, and inconsistencies of practice, including preparing a report on findings.

  • Develops and maintains appropriate education tools to complement policies and procedures.

  • Evaluate and consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost regarding professional development activities and share findings with leadership.

  • Structures educational programs and selects assignments for clinical staff development to meet instructional needs.

  • Ensures that there are processes in place to monitor and measure all activities related to performance improvement.

  • Provides leadership and direction in the creation of patient and caregiver education materials (including job aides, workflows, and standard operating procedures).

  • Develops and implements new training and competencies to clinical support staff by utilizing best practice methods, measurements, and tools.

  • Establishes policies, protocols and standard operating procedures ensuring performance standards of nursing and medical assistants are met while maintaining compliance with organizational standards, and federal, state & local laws.

  • Assesses current and develop new comprehensive education programs to the ongoing competency needs of the clinical staff.

  • Provide consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development and mentorship opportunities.

    Qualified Candidate will have a current license as a Registered Nurse in New York State, with Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) required. Possession of Basic Life (BLS) Certification required.

    At least three (3) year of experience working in an ambulatory care setting, preferably in an HIV/AIDS or other infectious disease practice. Qualified candidate will have one (1) to two (2) years of supervisory experience. Candidate must have familiarity with computers, EMR software (Medent), and MS Office software (Outlook, Word). Previous experience providing training is preferred. Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the issues that underserved populations, people living with HIV and people who use drugs, including health disparities that affect people of color at a disproportionate rate.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Required license/education: Registered Nurse in New York State, with Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN)

    Required certification: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

    Required experience: one (1) to two (2) years of supervisory experience, with three (3) years of experience in an ambulatory setting.

    Preferred experience: Providing education to adult learners on clinical topics.
