M&T Bank 2025 Summer Internship Program - Treasury Quantitative Analytics in Buffalo, New York

Overview:

Summer Interns complete a 10 week internship centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed. Summer Interns participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and play an important role in building the future of the Bank. As an Intern, you will gain exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers as well as priority consideration for full time opportunities throughout the Bank.

The goal of the Treasury Division is to: Enable informed decisions through data, analytics, and modeling; Evaluate out risk-reward position and provide value added solutions to the Bank and our customers; and cultivate a creative, balanced, and open work environment.

The Treasury Quantitative Analytics team works within Treasury to support data, systems and forecasting needs of Treasury’s credit, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, CCAR (Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review)/stress testing and economic capital practices. This team support business initiatives and regulatory compliance in the analysis of origination, credit, financial, demographic, behavioral, market and economic data pertinent to the Bank’s customers, portfolios and products.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide crucial support by updating behavioral functions in models that support the Bank's loan business.

  • Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.

  • Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Work Visa Sponsorship not offered for this role

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Currently pursing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Econometrics, Statistics, Math, Data Analytics, or Computer Science

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated computer skills in Python, R, SAS, or SQL

  • Proven analytical skills

  • Proven critical thinking skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Detail-oriented

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00 per hour. The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above encompasses all geographic locations. The pay rate specific to your location will fall within this range and is available from your recruiter.
