Job Purpose

National Grid Ventures (NGV) is looking for a knowledgeable, curious, and driven Senior System Integration Engineer to join our Grid Integration and System Planning Team. This individual will support our Community Offshore Wind project by managing the interface technical data across the project, from the windfarm to the grid interconnection. They will ensure technical data is communicated across work package interfaces, and monitor how technical changes to the project impact the overall system design. This role will also provide support to other key initiatives outside of offshore wind, to support NGV's growth and partnerships throughout the Northeast US.

Key Accountabilities

* Drive and analyze the technical case development, optioneering and optimization at various stages of offshore wind development projects with particular attention to the interfaces between wind turbines, inter-array cables, offshore platform and HVDC converter, DC export cable, onshore HVDC converter station, onshore interconnection cable, and grid interconnection.
* Manage library of scenarios considering technical assessments of electric transmission and generation requirements as needed to help pursue most technically and economically advantageous options, feasibility and project opportunities.
* Co-ordinate across the project team to maintain a record of overlapping technical data and interdependencies, including an envelope of cases and assumptions. Develop recommendations as to the most effective project options.
* Contribute to the identification of strategic levers and implementation thereof into the project's technical case to increase the competitiveness and deliverability of proposed projects.
* Support each project with continuously updated technical data sets and supplying a holistic view of impacts of project changes.
* Take responsibility for the invoking the formal project change process by identifying and navigating applicable data changes as they arise.
* Fully engage as a key member of the Transmission Workstream to prepare and submit projects, proposal documentation, and OREC bid(s). Work to ensure that submissions achieve compliance with the tender regulations and internal governance processes.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's in Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.
* Experience in systems engineering analysis.
* Demonstrated ability to translate complex model outputs into business insight & articulate the impact of results.
* Broad knowledge of US power industry standards, structures, policies, regulations & market fundamentals is essential.
* Familiarity with recent trends and technologies in on-shore and off-shore wind, other large-scale renewable generation, energy storage, conventional generation and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen, for the purpose of managing technical business cases.
* Strong track record of relevant professional experience in projects, including developing business cases, optioneering, data analysis, estimating and work structure planning.
* Flair for handling & manipulating data to forecast, derive trends and test sensitivities.
* Interest in offshore wind project development and execution.
* Excellent communication skills with proven ability to persuade, challenge and build credibility based on personally derived recommendations.
* Computational literacy including handling large data sets is mandatory.
* General understanding of the components of offshore and onshore transmission grid assets including key risks and opportunities is required.
* Ability to develop tools and processes to facilitate best practice & knowledge sharing.

Salary

New England MA: $139,000 - $164,000 a year

Downstate NY: $150,000 - $176,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
