Are you passionate about saving the world's urban forests? Do you have a green thumb and a knack for problem-solving? We're seeking a highly skilled Arborist to join our team and help combat the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) threat to New York City's treasured trees.
Project Overview:
As an Arborist on our EAB project, you'll work closely with the NYC Parks Department to assess the impact of this invasive pest on our city's urban canopy. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying infested trees, developing strategies for their treatment, and overseeing construction projects to mitigate the EAB threat.
Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough tree inspections to identify signs of EAB infestation
Collaborate with contractors to ensure effective treatment and pruning methods are used
Provide daily reports on project progress and any issues that arise
Oversee construction projects on multiple sites, ensuring compliance with safety standards and project timelines
Work with contractors to develop and implement emergency storm response plans
Utilize city-approved forms and software (FORMS System) to track project data and communicate with stakeholders
Conduct stump inspections to monitor the effectiveness of treatments
What We're Looking For:
ISA certification (International Society of Arboriculture) or willingness to obtain within 6 months
Strong knowledge of horticulture, botany, environmental science, forestry, or a related field
Experience in construction oversight, inspection, or a related field (civil engineering, landscape architecture, or TRAQ)
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Familiarity with city regulations and safety protocols
Must have personal vehicle
