New York Botanical Garden Security Supervisor (PT) in Bronx, New York

Position Summary:

The Security Supervisor will manage security operations during a particular shift.

Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct all on-duty Security personnel during and after normal Garden business hours.

  • Ensure the safety of Garden property, employees and visitors.

  • Conduct the rollcall and ensure that all officers are present, in proper uniform and aware of their post orders and all current events.

  • Prepare scheduling and overtime as needed for daily operations and special events.

  • Ensure that security officers are knowledgeable on recent incidents and provide guidance on how established protocols should be followed.

  • Inspect all officers while they are on post and sign their memo books during the tour.

  • Respond to all incidents and conduct a preliminary investigation.

  • Coordinate emergency resources when necessary and provide direction.

  • Prepare detailed Incident Reports.

  • Act as the point of contact for the NYPD and FDNY upon their arrival on grounds.

  • Direct personnel changes during the shift and adjust posts as necessary.

  • Oversee the deployment of officers assigned to special events to ensure a safe environment.

  • Assist the Senior Director of Security with developing, coordinating, managing and communicating the security plan and, through proactive leadership and engage the security staff to maximize the efficiency of the operation.

  • Respond to all emergencies, fire alarms, criminal events, medical issues and newsworthy incidents and provide direction to our staff while coordinating the responding emergency services response.

  • Train security staff.

    Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field of study.

  • Must be a NYS Licensed Security Officer.

  • Driver’s License Required

  • Must be able to pass any State-required training or other qualifications for licensing.

  • Candidates must have at least 5 years of supervisory experience in security.

  • Must be able to works days, nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Effective Management and Supervisory Skills

  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with staff, direct reports and the public

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively

  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams

  • Attention to detail

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    Long periods of standing, sitting, patrolling. Must be able to promptly respond to emergencies, as needed. Must be able to move/lift up to 40 pounds. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, as well as moderate to loud work conditions.

    Baseline Work Schedule:

    Varies. Schedule will fall within Friday – Sunday, 14- 21 hours a week

    Pay Rate : $40/ HR
